A year ago, my posts analyzing the entertainment industry, massive layoffs, and media mergers were reaching hundreds of thousands of people. Back when LinkedIn also had Creator Mode with specialized industry topics and I was regularly sharing my thoughts on the media production field. The views and engagement were enormous. But then, I stopped completely. Here is why.
One day, I read this comment on one of my posts:
“The current shortage of projects is very often exploited by productions to pressure for lower fees for professionals. Because most are in financial crises with debt. Not only is it immoral, but it will probably have much wider implications. I have already recorded a case when it drove a man who had successfully worked in the industry for over 40 years to suicide...”
That destroyed me. It was an instant wake-up call. I realized I wasn’t doing what I like to do: look for solutions. So, I no longer wanted to spend my energy merely reporting on the bleeding, dissecting why the media industry wasn’t the same, or tracking the collapse of traditional structures. I wanted to shared on adaptation and what was working for me because that’s been my focus, always.
Today, that change I made guides everything I do. If you know me, you know that I haven’t been one focusing on titles, or fighting to send my projects for awards, or chasing views and followers. I keep doing what has made me happy and kept my sanity. Writing some of this from a balcony in Lake Como, Italy, mid-trip working on international productions, that’s the life this pivot made possible, because I always choose wellbeing, which is the most important asset I take care of.
On our podcasts, both in Spanish Dale Cuentame (Success & Wellbeing) and in English in The Hollywood Makers (THM) podcast and community, we focus strictly on solutions, we interview a variety of guests on their work during the recalibration of the industry and created an initiative to support emerging creatives. On my Substack, I actively write about the work we do every day in our company Rx Media Productios, Inc. : IP curation, content development and production, and consulting about audience intelligence, multiculturalism, and navigating the media industry in the era of AI.
I see so many incredible peers who were also sharing about the same problems and scaled their careers as speakers, thought leaders, and influencers. That’s a unique craft. But I mostly applaud and thank the ones who, besides leveling up their careers by sharing about layoffs and the changes in Hollywood and beyond, also showed their activism by bringing solutions to others.
The ultimate lesson I learned from walking away from the viral “doom-and-gloom” content is this: You are entirely unique. If your skills, your specific niche, and your lived experience offer genuine value to your life and career, go all in on it. Package it. Offer it up. Bring concrete solutions to the table, and leave the endless complaining or attacking of others behind. And be honest and respectful, whether your scaling the corporate later or enjoying being a creative entrepreneur.
Let’s be clear: I am a massive supporter of true activism. But real advocacy happens when your words state the facts, and your actions simultaneously walk the talk. True impact comes from creating practical solutions and bringing solutions to the world.
Trusting my instinct to pivot away from high-view negativity and complaining, toward intentional, solutions-oriented growth has helped my career tremendously. I always adapt, refocus, and move forward and upward, taking care of my wellbeing without affecting others.
What is the core takeaway that completely changed how you operate? This is my lesson learned.
