I’m going to Knoxville on Friday for the weekend, and into next week, so I need to get way ahead on my work before I go, or at least that’s what it feels like. The thinking being, the more I get done this week, the less I’ll have to do when I’m there!
Kasey, the older boys’ mum, is coming to watch the boys today and tomorrow, so once she arrives, I head to Snail, where I get a breakfast sandwich and a coffee ($23), and attempt to ignore my multiple angry inboxes and get to work.
This is harder than I think it’ll be, honestly, and I feel very anxious and frazzled and not super productive. Despite my best efforts, I get about half of what I need to get done, done, and then decide to take myself to Barnes & Noble to gather my thoughts.
I make a little reel while I’m there, because sometimes it’s fun to troll the trolls.
I end up wandering through Macy’s, where I see a pair of boots I like, then think, where would I ever wear those to?! (my eternal shopping question) Then I “nip in” to H&M to see if they’ve anything cute for Atlas’ first day of school on Wednesday. I buy him a T-shirt and get myself two tops and a pair of trousers. ($75.92) [Rosemary from the future: I ended up giving one of the tops to Bea, and the trousers still need to be returned.]
In Barnes & Noble, I buy myself a colouring book and some markers, such is my desperation to find something to calm my brain down with, as well as Heart the Lover, Tender is the Flesh, The Calamity Club, and a fourth book whose name I can’t remember. ($125.16)
After Barnes & Noble, I get myself a super quick sundae and a Diet Coke from McDonald’s (give me a break, okay?!?) ($5.93) then head home, where I attempt to finish a bit of work and eventually just give up and sit on the couch with Atlas and Roman.
It’s back to school night at Atlas’ school, so when Brandin gets home we head off with Atlas and Roman (our 13-year-old is at marching band, and the 11-year-old gets to stay home, as we’re going five minutes around the corner and will be there for 20 minutes max).
At school, we get the disturbing news – it’s possible this had been communicated previously and I just hadn’t seen it – that school isn’t actually starting back for Atlas until Monday, which means I won’t be there for his first day, something that upsets me much more than I’d thought it would.
Anyway, back-to-school night is grand except that Atlas has a bit of a meltdown when it comes time to leave (we’re still working on transitions over here!), so we’ve to do a little wrangling (ie carrying him, kicking and screaming, out of there) to get back to the car.
We pick up dinner from Pizza Hut on the way home. ($26.11)
I also see that influencer Samantha Ravndahl’s beauty brand, Auric, from which I’ve previously bought things and really liked them, is closing down, and because I really like and want to support her (but also, as mentioned, because I like the products) I go on and order some bits I don’t need. Yes, we’re still living in payday mode over here. ($144.19)
My subscription to Back Row comes out. ($5)
