From classrooms to communities, from ideas to implementation, Roots Africa changemakers are not just learning agriculture; they are building the structures that allow farmers to grow, sustain, and own their progress.
Across Uganda and Liberia, one message continues to guide us:
The difference is not the soil. It is the system.
Over the past five weeks, the 2026 Changemaker Cohort has moved through:
Orientation & Team Formation
Business Development for Startups
Project Planning & Management
Record Keeping, Reporting & Time Management
Community Banking & Local Capital Systems
Each session builds on the next, moving changemakers from ideas → structure → execution → sustainability.
A group of farmers sits under a tree.
No bank.
No formal office.
No big institution.
But something powerful is happening.
They are saving together.
Lending to each other.
Tracking contributions.
Building trust.
This is not just a meeting.
This is a community building its own financial system.
This month, our changemakers explored how:
farmers can finance farmers
communities can invest in themselves
local systems can replace dependency

This is the shift:

In Tappita, Nimba County, our changemakers and local partners stepped into action.
With the support of community leaders, farmers received essential tools to strengthen their productivity.
But the real story is not the tools.
It is ownership.
When communities lead:
Resources go where they matter
Solutions move faster
Impact becomes sustainable
This is Roots Africa in action.
At Mountains of the Moon University, our changemakers are no longer just students.
They are:
training farmers
sharing agronomy practices
strengthening local systems
Standing alongside government agencies, researchers, and practitioners, they demonstrated what it means to move from learning → leadership.
What started as one tree in Kihondo Community has grown into a 3,000-tree movement for:
Climate action
Soil conservation
Water sustainability
This is the power of small actions scaled through community ownership.
