Jesus announced His mission in His hometown, and the world was never the same. Following Him means saying yes to everything He came to do.
Resisting Temptation
Jesus resisted the enemy with God’s Word. Because He stood firm in our place, we can stand strong by rooting ourselves in Scripture before the battle begins.
Living in the Father’s Delight
Jesus’ baptism and genealogy revealed the Father’s pleasure in His Son. In Christ, we can rest in the Father’s delight, knowing our identity is secure in belonging to Him.
Turn Now, Not Later
John the Baptist boldly called people to immediate repentance. We must turn to Jesus today because we are unsure how much longer His patience will be.
Growth Takes a Lifetime
As Jesus matured in wisdom and stature, He amazed those around Him. Spiritual growth takes a lifetime, reminding us that none of us has fully arrived yet.
Expectant to Experience Jesus
Simeon and Anna both had the opportunity to encounter the newborn Jesus because of their prioritized habits. If we are to experience Jesus, we must stay expectant.
There’s Peace to Be Had
The angels announced the birth of Jesus to those who were least likely to receive such glorious news. Christ’s incarnation brings peace to a chaotic earth that longs for something more.
Clear the Obstacles for Others
At John the Baptist’s birth, his father, Zechariah, prophesied that he would prepare others to encounter Jesus. His ministry models the same type of work for us so that those far from Christ may experience an up-close view.
Every Promise Kept
Luke 1:26-56 – When Gabriel announced Jesus’ birth, Mary trusted that God would fulfill every word He had spoken. Her surrendered faith reminds us that we can live confidently knowing God keeps every promise He makes.
God is in the Details
God interrupted Zechariah and Elizabeth’s ordinary lives with extraordinary plans. He still works through life’s details, so trust His plan and timing.
Truth Worth Telling
Luke carefully studied the life and lessons of Jesus to communicate them with a dear friend. We ought to know the gospel message so well that we can share it with others.
Commission
Until Christ comes, He has called us to go with the gospel until all have heard. Our lives are purposed to join Him in making disciples of all nations.
Crucifixion
Since we could not reach heaven, the Son of God came to us. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus would change everything.
Corruption
The people of God progressively pushed against the ways of God and pursued the ways of the world. The further they drifted, the more apparent their need for a Savior was.
Creation
From the dawn of creation, God revealed His grace by inviting us to know Him. Though humanity rebelled time and again, His pursuit of our redemption never relented.
Ordinary People with Extraordinary Causes
After deliverance came celebration, and faithful servants helped preserve the story. God uses ordinary people who say yes to extraordinary causes for His glory.
Disarming the Enemy
Instead of suffering defeat, God’s people gained ground. When God fights for you, no enemy can stand.
Plead on Behalf of Others
Esther’s position insulated her from the opposition to God’s people, but she couldn’t sit idly or stay silent. We ought to plead on behalf of others when they cannot protect themselves.
Digging a Hole for Yourself
Haman’s rage consumed him, and his plot backfired in dramatic fashion. Unchecked anger not only harms others, but it also destroys us.
Set Up for a Downfall
Haman designed a plan for the king to honor himself, but he surprisingly used those directions to honor his enemy, Mordecai. Do the right thing, and honor will come to you in the right way and at the right time.
Intentional Influence
Esther seized her God-given opportunity and used it with wisdom. When we obey His leading, we must act with diligence and discretion.
For Such a Time as Missed
Mordecai urged Esther to intervene for the sake of God’s people but trusted their survival even if she refused. We must remember that God’s will advances, with or without us.
The Dangers of Hate
Haman’s hatred of the Jews incited him to seek their destruction. Any type of perceived superiority based on nationality or ethnicity is unfounded and ungodly.
