I’m finally feeling much better and slowly getting mine back on track, so I wanted to touch base.

As I mentioned last time, I had to postpone my April solo exhibition at Susan Inglett Gallery in NYC due to ongoing health issues after my surgeries. But my body has finally cooperated enough for me to return (slowly) to my favorite place on Earth: my charmingly inadequate guest-bedroom workspace. I’m alive and drawing again—and I’ll happily take what I can get.
Many of you know how physically demanding my large-scale work is. That’s why I’ve been keeping things intimate by making drawings on found vintage postcards for all of my paid Substack subscribers.
I started this project back in October of 2024. Since then, I’ve sent over 250 of them to homes around the world. After a lifetime of making and exhibiting art internationally, I’ll just say it: this might be the most fun I’ve ever had making work. (Sorry, big drawings.) 😲

Later this year, I will launch an independent micro-press called Miserable Hawaii Books! It will focus on small runs of artists’ books, zines, essays, poetry, recipes, letters, and whatever else feels right. I’m naming it after this moody 2012 drawing — one of my all-time favorites.
💻My New Website💻
My brand-new website—complete with a fully stocked shop and a complete archive of thirty years of work—will launch on May 15th, god willing. I can’t wait to show you.
👂🏼ME READING STUFF👂🏼
On the podcast front, I’m finally on a solid weekly streak since January—a pretty good gauge of how I’m feeling both physically and mentally. A recent episode includes an astonishing poem I found tucked inside a library book on Medieval Art (dated February 7, 1958). The excitement was only slightly tempered by the realization that possibly no one had checked out this book since the 1950s.
The intrigue of the poem more than made up for the sadness of that discovery. Listen to me read it to you HERE.
