New York bill S8869/A9519 requires private health insurance plans to cover hormonal contraception prescribing provided by pharmacists. Pharmacist Prescriber bill passed both the NY State Senate and Assembly; and now on Governor Hochul’s desk for consideration.

When eliminating doctor visits and placing responsibility with pharmacist prescribers tools need to be available for monitiring client customer status.

Vit D

Homocysteine

CBC platelets

Iron

Ferritin

HgA1C

Ca/albumin

Ca/Phosphorus

Triglercerides/HDL cholesterol

(Na+K) - (CO2 + Chloride) = Anion Gap

It’s easy to bill for prescribing but more information would be so valuable. Why can’t NYers purchase home test kits for Vit D ? and homocysteine?

Homocysteine test needed to identify the need for methylB 12 methyl folate B6 methylB complex

High Homocysteine

Pharmacists can’t prescribe non hormonal contraception phexx gel which lowers pH with acidic ingredients. Phexx gel is not listed in the standing order but needed for Post mastectomy Breast Cancer client wanting non hormonal contraception, for on demand use as needed, not a implanted copper IUD.

Homocysteine test

For me to recommend Contraception with added Iron, I would like to see Iron and Ferritin blood level results.

There are alot of plantbased foods with Iron. Whole plant foods are the healthiest source of Iron.

( I don’t dispense Iron prescriptions or contraception products with added Iron without blood Iron Ferritin CBC homomcysteine levels to see if there is actual need.)

Bill S8869/A9519 needs more content for pharmacists to help contraception client customers improve lifestyle.

  1. Add Phezz Vaginal Gel to standing order for pharmacist to prescribe for contraception users looking for non hormonal contraception.

  2. Add home test kit sales of VitD homocysteine for contraception customer use.

or

  1. Add Blood test ordering authority for pharmacists.

  2. Add continuing education with nutritional strategies for health conditions.
