As the light tempers itself with the notes of twilight, I grapple with an angst that arises with the close of another day. For years now, evening has been a challenge. Why? A question I have yet to answer, but one that nonetheless arrives again and again around 6pm.
Lately Jay has discussed a concept he calls ‘perpetual twilight,’ defining this as the current state of humanity. If this is the case, I am further twinged with unease. As a mother, you know that small sense of truth. The one where you realize your children are vulnerable beyond your protection. That there is safety, there is danger, but there is something else. Something that only full-embodied, wailing surrender can satisfy. Maybe this is the essence of twilight.
Yet, then, how do we surrender? How do we find courage to lay down everything for our children, but paradoxically know we have to fully let them go so they can live the life we gave to them? Maybe this is the teaching of twilight.
Maybe this is why it’s uncomfortable.
It’s easy to remember that God is light—not just spiritually, but as the foundation of how we begin to understand everything else. And… I will remind myself, that God, is also twilight.
In my moment of ‘in-between’ it feels coincidental and serendipitous to send a quick reminder to you~
Tomorrow we will join together to find solidarity and personal connection. To discuss tools we can use when facing a world that feels up against our uniqueness. To practice together what it means to surrender.
There will also be space for personal questions—especially around circadian & quantum biology, health, and children.
Sovereignty. Motherhood. God.
Finding a path through the uncertain.
All rising together.
