Hey folks!
Been a couple of busy weeks, so this news is a little bit delayed, but I’m proud to announce that I’m kicking off a brand new Masters of the Universe series this summer!
Masters of the Universe: Genesis takes us back to Skeletor’s earliest days on Eternia, as he assembles his band of evil warriors to realize his ambitions of wielding ultimate power!
I’m working with my Heartpiercer collaborator, Gavin Smith, and amazing colorist Fabi Marques, and together, we’re going to make this series one to remember!
It’s been so much fun working on this book. I remember being little and dragging my mom to the store to get me a He-Man toy - but when we got there, I took one look at Skeletor and knew he was my guy. Just so much more metal than blondie over there.
Plus, my best friend already had He-Man, and it set us up perfectly for some epic battles over the power swords.
I got to bring a lot of my favorite He-Man characters into this too - this issue has Beast Man and Mer-Man in it, and we’re going to meet Trap-Jaw, TriKlops, and Evil-Lyn very soon.
Issue 1 is still a ways off, being out on August 4th, but there’s plenty of time to let your shops know you’re excited to pick it up, either the kickass cover Gavin created above, or this badass variant from the one and only Lee Bermejo!
Also on the release radar is THE MAN WHO OUTDREW DEATH, where I reunite with my Batman: Brave and the Bold collaborator Stevan Subic to deliver a creepy western tale for the July issue of HELLO DARKNESS.
When Stevan was last in town for NYCC, we hung out and took a long walk all across Manhattan and Brooklyn, ending in DUMBO where we took in the famous view of the Manhattan Bridge in Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America.
Along the way, we talked about our love of Leone’s work, which is just one reason why Stevan was the perfect collaborator for this. Flipping through the art as it comes in, I can practically hear the Ennio Morricone score.
