In Part 1, Lance Cashion lays the conceptual foundation for worldview thinking. He defines worldview — drawing on Immanuel Kant’s term Weltanschauung — as the lens through which we view, interpret, and engage reality. Using the analogy of a fruit tree, he explains that our fundamental beliefs (roots) shape our values (trunk), which drive our behaviors (branches) and ultimately produce consequences (fruit). He distinguishes worldview from evangelism and apologetics, and highlights the difference between theocentric (God-centered) and anthropocentric (man-centered) approaches to understanding the world.
Cashion issues an urgent call for Christians to think worldviewishly — recognizing the worldviews embedded in movies, music, laws, education, and culture — so that they can counter anti-Christian narratives with the truth of the biblical worldview and become agents of cultural change. He points to William Wilberforce as a model of ordinary Christians doing extraordinary things through an integrated, active faith.
