Good men of strength just want to be left alone to marry the woman they love, work, care for their children, live in peace, and build something meaningful for the people under their watch.
Evil men are parasites that feel entitled to invade the worlds of good men and steal or destroy everything they have built and harm the people they love.
A good man who wants to be left alone is a sheathed sword — capable of extreme violence and destruction but remaining under control. A good man is meek in this way. After all, he wants to live a quiet and peaceful life — he wants to be left alone.
“Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you.”

Romans 12:18 (ESV)
When threatened or attacked, the good man must take action and unsheathe the sword — not for retaliation but for defense of the good, the true, and the beautiful.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn said, “The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of men who wanted to be left alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them are over.
The moment the men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left alone fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy… but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the men who just wanted to be left alone.”
A godly man governs his home well with love for the people under his care and protection. This is God’s provision of authority and stewardship to fathers and husbands. Furthermore, God instituted three spheres of sovereignty — the church, the family, and the state. Each has its own form of authority, governance, discipline, function, and purpose.
The church has pastors and elders in service of the congregation. The state has military, justice systems, and law enforcement in service of the nation. The family has the father and husband. As such, the father is the governing authority and ruler of the home. This is not domination — it is leadership, care, and self-sacrifice in accountability to God and instituted by Him. He is a servant for the good of the family — and a terror to evil men who threaten it.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad... But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain.

Good men who want to be left alone are a terror to evil when the evil they hate invades their domain.
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.

Jesus taught his disciples, And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
Luke 22:36 (ESV)
Good men are peaceful until forced to defend what they love, and that role is God-ordained.
In the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien captures the image of good men making a last stand to defend their families and community at Helm’s Deep. It ended in victory for the defenders and destruction of the dark forces.

Wailing they passed under the waiting shadow of the trees; and from that shadow none ever came again.”
