Ben Nathanson · The patient is responding

I had a wonderful long conversation recently with the CEO of the Prostate Cancer Research Institute, which was recorded and is now available on YouTube.

PCRI has done an incredible job answering patients’ questions on prostate cancer — its YouTube channel, which has been around for more than a decade, now has 80,000 subscribers and nearly 650 videos! The four most recent videos — just a sample — are

Answering those questions is the straight-shooting medical oncologist Mark Scholz, whose book Invasion of the Prostate Snatchers helped rally efforts against prostate overtreatment. PCRI also holds an annual conference that gets talked about in the patient community for weeks afterward.

Hosting these videos is Alexandra Scholz, the institute’s CEO, and she has also begun a series of interviews with patients and caregivers. That’s where I come in. Alex and I met at a webinar that Dr. Scholz, her father-in-law, gave for AnCan, the peer-support organization I volunteer with1. She asked about my Progressions blog2, and not long after invited me to sit for the interview now on YouTube.

She’s a passionate advocate for patients and a fantastic interviewer. I loved speaking with her.
