I wrote a similar piece covering my local advocacy work in April and May, and loved reflecting on everything I'm part of and grateful for. So here's a June rundown. Some months lean into on-the-ground work; others focus on strategy, research, and collaboration. Either way, here are a few accessible ways to get involved.
Refill Period Pantry - Mutual Aid is great!
Before and After Refilling the period Pantry (Love that The Leader of our Org includes Narcan for Harm Reduction! Supported Ariel, a Florida Access Network (FAN) Fellow (FAN is a 501c3 repro justice nonprofit that funds abortion care and provides logistical support for individuals in Florida), as they execute their fundraiser for period pantry access network (double check to confirm name). Gay Prom raised $1,000 to period pantry network and it was so great to see a community leader do their thing in the very community they have built and fostered!
Attended Impolite Company Book Club, for Palmetto State Abortion Fund, where I got to listen to Jessica Valenti speak about her work, the newsletter she puts out, and what she is currently thinking about in abortion access. Please consider joining the August book club - Carey really does a fantastic job leading conversation.
Attended the Monthly Volunteer Training/ Digital Organizing with Florida Access Network
Behind the scenes I am getting ready to publish a few research pieces that I’m truly excited about and fortunately get to work with so many people I look up to * pinch me *.
Joining in community or creating it is alot simpler than you might think and I truly know that all the little actions taken monthly, accumulates to real change.
