Reproductive Freedom for All: The Fight Is Now — Here’s How to Join It.

Every day in 2026, reproductive freedom is being defined by who has power and who is denied care. In Pennsylvania, a court struck down the ban on using Medicaid funds for abortions and affirmed a state constitutional right to abortion. At the same time, reporting shows red-state abortion bans are not ending abortions so much as blocking lifesaving care in medical emergencies. And at the federal level, the DOJ met with anti-abortion advocates just hours after firing staff accused of ties to abortion-rights groups.

These are not isolated fights. They reflect a broader strategy: deny care to people with the fewest resources, expand political control over private medical decisions, and protect systems that punish the vulnerable while shielding the powerful. Real people are paying the price. This is a national battle over bodily autonomy, dignity, and freedom.

What’s Happening: Three Stories Exposing the Coordinated Attack on Reproductive Rights.

The assault on reproductive justice rarely announces itself plainly. It arrives as a quiet regulatory rollback, a closed clinic, a law passed and handed to a prosecutor. Each story looks like policy. Together, they reveal a national playbook — and it is dangerous.

  • When healthcare depends on income, rights are already under attack. A Pennsylvania court struck down the state’s ban on using Medicaid funds for abortions and said the state constitution guarantees a right to abortion. That is what people power looks like: refusing a system where low-income women are denied care because politicians decided their freedom costs too much. The Guardian

  • Abortion bans were sold as stopping abortions. Instead, they are stopping lifesaving care. Slate reports the bans are failing at their own stated goal while putting pregnant people in danger when emergencies hit. Freedom over fascism means rejecting laws that treat women as disposable and defending the right to survive pregnancy, not just the right to be judged by politicians. Slate

  • This is what authoritarian power looks like when extremists get the keys. NBC News reports the Justice Department met with anti-abortion advocates just hours after firing staff accused of ties to abortion-rights groups. When government punishes one side and welcomes the other, rights are not being protected. People power means defending bodily autonomy and stopping the state from becoming a weapon for ideological control. NBC News

  • Power without accountability becomes abuse. A new study found 53 workplace sexual harassment allegations against at least 30 members of Congress, and most victims were staffers. Survivors deserve more than another resignation and a forgotten headline. People power means changing the rules, protecting workers, and ending the culture that lets the powerful prey on those with less power. The Guardian

Why This Is Not a Values Debate — It’s a Fight for Bodily Autonomy.

These stories show how reproductive freedom is shaped by power. When a state denies Medicaid coverage for abortion, it tells low-income people their rights matter less. When abortion bans block emergency care, they expose the lie that these laws are about protecting life. When the DOJ appears to sideline one side while welcoming the other, it raises the danger of government becoming an ideological weapon.

That is why reproductive freedom is not a side debate about values. It is about whether people can make decisions about their own bodies without coercion, abuse, or political interference. It is about whether the law protects freedom or reinforces control.

The people harmed first are the ones already carrying the most: low-income patients, pregnant people facing medical emergencies, workers vulnerable to abuse, and communities with the least access to care. When abortion access depends on income, geography, or political favor, freedom becomes conditional.

But these stories also show people are not giving up. Patients, providers, organizers, attorneys, and survivors are still pushing back. Courts can still be moved, truth can still expose cruelty, and communities are still fighting to make care real and power accountable. Bodily autonomy survives because people refuse to surrender it.

People Power United members believe change is possible because we have seen ordinary people rise, organize, and be a force for progress. Real change does not come from waiting politely, staying quiet, or hoping those in power suddenly grow a conscience. It comes when people speak out, show up, and demand action—because our communities and families cannot wait, and every moment we delay gives injustice more room to tighten its grip on our communities.

The prochoice movement needs you, and it needs you today. Here’s how to show up:

What Comes Next: The Women’s Health Protection Act. image of women, logo of people power united.
What Comes Next: The Women’s Health Protection Act.

The path forward is through the courts, the ballot box, and Congress — and there are concrete legislative tools available right now.

The Women’s Health protection Act (WHPA) would establish a federal statutory right to provide and access abortion care — one that cannot be overridden by state-level bans or restrictions. Under former Leader Pelosi, it has already passed the House. It is currently blocked in the Senate by Republican opposition.

What the WHPA does:

  • Protects abortion access nationwide with a binding federal statutory guarantee

  • Prevents state bans from interfering with the patient-provider relationship

  • Restores bodily autonomy as a legally enforceable right — not merely a precedent subject to reversal

  • Has already passed the House; blocked by Republicans in the U.S. Senate

Passing the WHPA requires electing senators who will vote for it — which means registering voters, turning out voters, and building the sustained civic infrastructure that converts political will into electoral outcomes. That work is already happening, and it is making a measurable difference.

⚖️ Take action: Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor and support the Women’s Health Protection Act

Together, we can defend our rights, freedoms, the rule of law, and democracy, hold leaders accountable to the people’s will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
