A little housekeeping - and a thank you

Since I started this blog, I have never once raised the subscription price, even as inflation has pushed costs up by over 28% in the UK and 39% in Czechia. That was a choice, and I’d make it again - but from 15 August 2026 - the day I give my Tesla Tech presentation - a few things will change. If you already subscribe, the short version is: nothing changes for you, and you’re getting something new.

Your rate stays exactly where it is - the same monthly or yearly price you are paying now - for as long as your subscription stays active. The whole archive remains open to you, as it always has.

And I want to give something back. Starting in August, I’ll be holding a live AMA every month, just for paid subscribers. Once a month, same time each month, you and me - ask me anything about the research, the history, the Russian papers, the strange rabbit holes, whatever you like. Post your questions in advance in the subscriber chat so no timezone gets left out, and I’ll record each session so you can catch up whenever suits you.

There’s more. O-Animator - the Fractal Toroidal Moment Simulator - is coming in the fourth quarter of this year, and subscribers are first in line:

• Every subscriber, free or paid, gets a Personal key - the full simulator: every structure, every physics control, every visualisation, stills and screen-quality video capture. Nothing about the science is locked. Keys will be issued to subscribers monthly from Q4 2026.

• Annual subscribers get the Commercial licence free - the $99-per-seat production pipeline (lossless frame sequences, 16-bit deep colour, HDR EXR output, Blender scene export, 4K rendering, attribution waived) - including a fresh key with every release, for as long as you subscribe. Your annual subscription now more than pays for itself.

To my Founding Members - you know who you are. Your generosity has quite literally put me in conference halls and equipment on benches. Thank you.

From 15 August, new subscriptions go from $70 to $80 a year, and $7 to $8 a month. That’s a 14.3% rise since 2019 - so even at the new price, supporting this work costs less in real terms than it did when I began. That feels right to me, and I intend to keep it that way.

Here’s the thing though: subscribe before 15 August and you lock in today’s rate - $7 or $70 - for as long as you stay subscribed. If you’ve been on the fence for a while, this is a genuinely good moment to hop off it.

I’m also adding a 20% discount for groups of 5 or more. Round up some curious friends, or bring your organisation or reading group along, and save a good chunk of change.

Some of the articles that have sat behind the paywall over the years are important - a few quite personal - and it has never sat entirely comfortably with me that they weren’t open to everyone. From August, [those pieces will be permanently free / anyone will be able to read the full archive free for 7 days with a trial].

At the same time, the archive will change: posts older than 4 months will move behind the paywall. But I want to be very clear about what stays open, because it’s most of it:

• Every new post is free to everyone for its first 4 months. The work itself stays out in the open - that will not change.

• Subscribers see no difference at all.

• A 7-day free trial lets anyone read the entire archive before deciding.

• A handful of the foundational posts will stay permanently free, so newcomers can always find their way in.

And none of this touches the YouTube videos at @MFMP - those remain free, as they always have been and always will be.

I’ll be honest with you, because you’ve earned that. My instinct has always been to give everything away, and the heart of this work will stay open. But I’m 53 now, with no meaningful pension waiting for me. My children have reached the age where they need their own rooms, and looking after them while I carry this work to conferences in new fields has become genuinely hard to fund. The other income that used to quietly support all this has fallen away. A fair, modest subscription is simply how the work carries on.

To everyone who has supported me over these years - whether with a subscription, a kind comment, or by simply showing up to the livestreams at unreasonable hours - thank you. It means more than you know.
