Life of a Shitmaker

A Day in the Life of an Enshittificator by the Norwegian Consumer Council describes how a “shitmaker” is tasked into making the products and services terrible. It feels so real, it hurts! As this comment puts it best: Things are so bad that Norway is making ads IN ENGLISH to tell us how bad things are.

Scrollerful 1.2.2

New Scrollerful 1.2.2 has better support for horizontal scroll animations. The docs site now has a demo with controls built in. What a time to be alive!

Colourful logs

TIL about lnav and I’ve never seen logs so colourful before. It loads log files, detects their formats, lets you search with regex and SQL, add filters. Pre-compiled binaries available. Just downloaded it and ran it on my server and it’s so good at helping me viewing its logs. I never thought I could be excited about logs! It’s fantastic!

Looking back on dress.css

Last year, I published dress.css v5 . 👗👗👗👗👗 It’s a class-less baseline CSS. Browsers use defaults mostly decided in the 90s. So I explored what if they were decided today. Could have been a waste of time. But, no! Helped me kickstart many sites since then. Glad I made it!

imgmod & vidmod

I finally decided to rewrite vidmod , my helper script for ffmpeg to do simple video edits, and made it modular using plugins. Also created something similar for images with the new imgmod using ImageMagick 7. Both vidmod v2 and imgmod are available in remutils as well as via my Homebrew cask homebrew-remino .

Remarqueeble Marquee Replacement

HTML has deprecated the de facto <marquee> tag a long time ago. Yet, browsers still support it—nobody suggested a 1:1 replacement. I vibe-coded Remarqueeble . Just replace <marquee> with <re-marquee> . npm install remarqueeble Remarquee demo

Astro going at warp speed

Two major releases in one year? Hey Astro team, can you maybe chill a bit? Then again, Astro 6 was about cleanup, Astro 7 is for performance. It’s a lot: Vite 8, Rust compiler, faster Markdown, route caching, queued rendering, Live Collections, Fonts API, CSP API, request-pipeline control, etc. Astro 6.0 (2026-05-10) Astro 7.0 (2026-06-22)

Obamacare Floppy Disk

I don’t know why, but… Someone took an old 8” floppy disk and labelled it Obamacare. It’s on eBay for 10 USD plus shipping. Almost 200 were sold already. Description says it’s just a joke, adding “There are no data on this disk. It is a conversation piece only.” 💾 Obamacare 8” floppy disk on eBay

Windows 3.0

I find it interesting how Windows 3.1 eclipsed 3.0. While 3.1 in 1992 was a major upgrade with a saturated colour scheme, WAV & MIDI sound, and TrueType fonts—having clock.exe change from its 8-segment display—3.0 was the one that brought a major UI overhaul two years prior. Windows 3.0 with its Control Panel and clock.exe displaying a 8-segment digital display—before using TrueType fonts in…

88x31 banner

Remember when 88x31px buttons were everywhere on the Web and we’d design our own for our websites?

Homage to twm

Used QEMU to set up an Arch Linux VM today for only one thing… To pay homage to twm, “Tom’s Window Manager” or “Tab Window Manager,” the most minimalist window manager on Linux I know. Screenshot I captured today: Back in 2003 when I was unemployed, I had to sell my high-end PC to pay rent. Went back to an old Pentium I, slow and low on resources, but it worked! Surprisingly customisable, and even…

Camscii Fun

Refactored Camscii a bit and fooled around with it this morning. Cool. (But I admit the code at this point is so much of a mess, I think it just deserves a rewrite. 😅) Pixelate yourself!
