Regina Fried · Regina Fried Writes

I wrote that question on a piece of paper and pinned it to my bulletin board months ago. I wanted to make a big change in my life but, lacking a crystal ball, I didn’t know whether the change would make my life better or worse. I suspected life would be better, but I was scared. Best to stick with how things were, right? Because: what if I leapt from my place of safety and it didn’t work out?

I talked things over with friends and family, I ruminated in the middle of the night, I read, I consulted the wise internet and the all-knowing social media. And eventually there it was. The answer to the question of What if it doesn’t work out? was another question: What if it all works out?

And so, I leapt and retired from my job. I decided that if now wasn’t the time to focus on the important things like my writing (including the novel I have started and abandoned three times), then that time would never come.

But novels take a long time to finish, and I also have other things I want to write about. Hence, this newsletter.

Writing. The creative process. Reading. Things that happen in my life. What it’s like to find out who you are (even if you’re at the age where you should already know that). The scariness and joys of retirement. Getting older. What’s really important in a life (in my life). These are some of the things I’ll write about in this newsletter. Maybe I’ll even write about my adventures in sewing and knitting, about learning to do new things late in life, and how good it feels to create real, not digital, things.

Subscribe to this free newsletter and you’ll receive an email whenever I write a new post.

Join me and find out what happens as I write to discover the answer to: What if it all works out?
