Seymour won its 2025 season opener on the last play of the game. Then the Panthers didn’t win again until the last game of the regular season.
The 2-8 record wasn’t what Tarrington Rivers expected in his head coaching debut, but he’s confident the Panthers have taken the strides needed to be more competitive this fall.
Seymour returns seven starters on each side of the ball, including first-team linebacker Jaxon Carrington, who along with guys like Slade Tucker, James Betts and Tyler Whitfield provide the Panthers with multiple offensive weapons.
But the Panthers’ success could be decided by how much their defense improves after allowing 45.4 points a game.
How Seymour ended the season – a 56-38 shootout over Archer City – provides Baylor County with optimism this fall. Rivers discussed that victory, his quarterback situation and what the biggest challenge was leading his alma mater in this preview.
Q: I know your record wasn’t what you wanted, but how important was it beating Archer City in Week 11 and ending a lengthy losing streak?
