After a quarter century removed from Iowa Park’s sidelines and a decade away from being a head coach, Weldon Nelms has returned to lead Iowa Park this season.
There’s a certain buzz that surrounds Nelms, the Hall of Fame coach who won two state titles while at Wimberly.
Iowa Park looks to bounce from a 3-7 season in 2025 that included a 3-0 start and then seven straight setbacks to finish out the year, snapping a lengthy playoff streak in the process.
The Hawks return five offensive and defensive starters, including junior quarterback Reed McClain and a couple seniors who earned all-district recognition in safety Carson McCord and lineman Weston Welborn.
Nelms prefers looking forward and expects his Hawks to be ready when they travel to Henrietta to open the season Friday night.
