The party set out from Sarendib for the Mines of the Lost, following rumours that the ancient mining complex was cursed and that those who entered lost their souls. Before leaving the city, they met their bardic contact, Faelora Starlute, who informed them that a member of the Greenharbour Trading Company had recently been assassinated, allegedly by the Ras-Godai. She offered to arrange an introduction to Greenharbour House if the party returned with news of their adventures.

On the outskirts of the city, the adventurers were approached by the elderly trader Yousef Al-Safir, whose son Hamid had disappeared while working at the mines. Desperate for answers, he promised the party 50 gp if they could discover his son’s fate.

The journey to the mines was uneventful apart from a distant sighting of a colossal purple sandworm and mysterious robed figures glimpsed in the swirling sands. Upon reaching the abandoned mining camp, the party found evidence of a hurried departure, including bloodstained cloth, mining charms, and abandoned equipment. Following animal tracks, they encountered three intelligent vultures who revealed the central mystery of the site: a strange “blue stone” beneath the mines was consuming names and identities. The vultures warned the party not to speak their true names near it and explained that creatures affected by the stone became empty shells. The party adopted aliases for safety: Green, Prancing, Pointy, and Dashing.

Descending into the mines, the group discovered glowing blue crystals, strange glass scarab beetles, and evidence that the crystals contained fragments of memories. They found miners transformed into hollow husks, jackals retaining fragments of their former humanity, and shrines warning that names anchored souls to mortal bodies. One jackal proved to be Hamid Al-Safir, transformed but still self-aware. The jackals helped clear a collapsed tunnel in exchange for food.

Deeper within the mines, the party located the source of the corruption: a floating blue “star-heart” that had fallen from the sky during the Reign of Blue Fire. The entity attempted to claim identities and offered to reshape those who surrendered themselves to it. After fighting off spectral manifestations and resisting psychic assaults, the party shattered the star-heart with magic and pickaxe blows. The corruption faded, the blue crystals dimmed, and the imprisoned souls were finally released. However, some lingering supernatural effects remained upon the adventurers, suggesting the encounter may have left its mark.
