While I have read that the i487SX contained a full i486DX implementation and would overtake the main CPU (and even work on its own, without a slotted-in 486, as both the FPU coprocessor and the main CPU according to CPU World), and have seen (such as on the Vogons board) dual-486 systems, I'm left to imagine that there could theoretically be a system that would have an independently running i486SX and i487SX, if the 487 was not allowed to disable the 486 in some way. Was such a theoretical system ever a reality? If not, are there concrete reasons as to why (such as it being somehow impossible to have those two chips running in parallel)?
