I just wanted to quickly welcome new subscribers. Over the last week I have accumulated hundreds of new subscriptions (thank you!) and thousands of new followers on Instagram (thank you!) but I actually lost more paid subscribers than I gained which is why I have to write this post.
I understand that when I make essays free, people do not feel compelled to pay for them which is why I so appreciate those of you who said, you know what? I’m gonna throw a few bucks at this actsh. (Thank you. Truly.)
Beyond that, I think it’s important to note that when women fuck with the quo, we put ourselves in financial jeopardy and followers do not necessarily translate into support.
It also points to a larger problem. Women are not great at rewarding each other financially for taking risks. Instead we say hooray! you go, girl, because attention/affirmations have always been a woman’s currency under patriarchy. Men get paid. Women are told they’re doing great, sweetie.
This is the major reason Hollywood’s hiring of women has DECREASED in recent years. When business is bad, women suffer the most because men are assumed to be the primary breadwinners and EVERYONE feels sorry for them when they can’t win bread.
Women on the other hand are collateral damage because they are ASSUMED to have men at home supporting them. This means that all of my brilliant friends, writers, show-runners, award winning geniuses who make film and TV — many of whom are SINGLE WOMEN AND MOTHERS/PRIMARY BREADWINNERS cannot get work right now.
Because nothing is sadder to another man than a man who is sad. And there are A LOT of sad (white!) men in Hollywood right now which means they get priority. Because they have families and Scott Galloway said that if men can’t provide, they will do terrible things like murder their entire families. Whereas women will just… starve.
This is a problem on multiple levels and one we need to actively remedy both here and beyond if we want more than just to SAY we want change. Investing in each other’s work is something we all have to be better at doing — especially when one has the means to do so.
Last week, as a guest on one of my oldest and wisest friends’ new talk show, The Rushfield Jamboree, Richard quoted the following post and passage:
motherhood isn't the problem, patriarchy is.

The following essay is for women who feel pressured to choose NOT to have children because of what family life has become culturally synonymous with, specifically MAHA tradwife influencer culture and the Left’s response of doubling-down on DON’T HAVE CHILDREN think pieces, which for a minute, were so prevalent it felt almost cartoonish. If there is one thing the Left does right it’s shoot itself in the foot and then complain about the blood stains.
I was grateful that he chose this passage/post to feature in our conversation because so much of my issue with “aesthetic procedures” is that FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, women are making their own money and yet, instead of investing that money into EACH OTHER’S ART, STORIES AND VOICES — during a CRUCIAL moment in time when AI is jeopardizing what creative power we finally have — that money is being reinvested into our own submission to patriarchy, pedophilia and the Female Insecurity Complex.
And while messages of support and solidarity are amazing, I cannot feed my family with them. No woman can.
So here is my ask.
Please become a paid subscriber to a newsletter that is doing work you admire. Look through your notes and reposts and pick someone whose words you return to or have inspired you to share your own and then commit to supporting her for ONE YEAR.
There are so many incredible women on this platform — specifically single mothers who are struggling to make ends meet and are giving you food for thought anyway. And while a few bucks a month might not seem like much, these subscriptions add up — keep us creating and help us raise our children on our own/make it possible to leave our marriages/spend our time writing instead of pursuing one of our many side hustles. (If you need some ideas, check my recs/subscriptions!)
I’m even gonna drop my subscription price 20% for the remainder of May ($5.60 a month!) because I need to make up for lost paid subscriptions in order to justify the time I spend writing here.
I believe that investing in women’s CREATIVE WORK is AS MUCH our responsibility as paying our bills and caring for our families and for all the talk of withholding money from the Targets and the Amazons, we should be holding each other accountable to invest in each other as well.
So if you’re new here, thank you! If my work is valuable to you, please consider upgrading your subscription to paid.
I, like many women on this platform am the sole breadwinner in my household and am able to do the work I do because people are willing to financially back it. Beyond that, my most provocative work is behind a paywall! So much goss!
So THANK YOU to those of you who continue to support me with paid subscriptions and any of you who have the means to join them today with this 20% off coupon.
I love you and welcome to the braid. <3
