Poetry postcards & stories projected on buildings

Back in July (how is it already September?) I returned from a family holiday, accepted a part-time job and started immediately. It’s in addition to my usual freelance work and I’m still trying to find the rhythm of my new day-to-day. This has led to me checking out library cookbooks on batch cooking and freezer meals. If you have a go-to freezer meal that’s not lasagne – please send me the recipe and I promise undying admiration of your life admin mastery. (I do love a lasagne, but it’s my go-to batch meal and it turns out I can only face so many lasagnes in a month.)

In the pockets of time that aren’t the new part-time job, I’ve been proofreading the children’s poetry anthology I’m co-editing; it will be out in 2026. Now that it’s off to the printer and looking more like a real book, there’ll be more to share about it soon – book title, poets, the ridiculously fabulous cover etc. I’m really excited about this book.

What else?

My 100-word story ‘Fish’ will be one of the stories projected onto the Fremantle Ports Administration Building at Victoria Quay during the Totally Lit festival. The event is Writ Large, presented in association with Fremantle Ports and Night Parrot Press. The official blurb says each night audiences will be able to access some of the best flash and micro fiction being written in WA. Woot! Writ Large will run nightly from 26 September to 10 October 2025 (7 pm to 10 pm). I’m not sure of the exact date/s that my little ‘Fish’ will be featured during that window; I’ll keep you posted. (Or you can just go along on whatever night suits you best and possibly enjoy another writer’s non-fish story!) For more info about Writ Large, you can visit the Totally Lit festival site here.

Since I seem to have completely skipped over Poetry Month (it was August and I was tackling New Job learning curves back then) I thought I would make up for it by sending out poetry postcards to celebrate World Postcard Day on October 1. The postcard in question features my poem ‘Potion Problems’, which is an October-ish sort of poem for kids (October containing Halloween and all). If you’d like a shot at a postcard, send me an email/message letting me know your postal address.

I’ll mail cards to the first five people I hear from. Due to the cost of postage, I’m afraid I can only manage snail mail to Australian addresses. You have up until 1 October 2025 to email/message me.
