Andie Wexler · Reasonable Inquiries

hi, I’m Andie.

Professionally speaking, my most marketable skill has always been curiosity. Excessive, often times intrusive, curiosity.

I’ve always loved writing, but for a long time, I didn’t know what to do with it. I wrote sappy poems — which turned into performative, satirical poems — which turned into a WIP novel. I could never quite put my finger on what kind of writing would actually make me feel fulfilled.

Here are a few of the Substack ideas I almost launched before this one:

  • This Should Be a Book: a series of short stories ending in cliffhangers, in case a publisher was lurking.

  • One Chapter A Week: Self-explanatory, I release one chapter a week of my WIP novel.

  • Character Development: a weekly character sketch of one person.

None of them stuck. Then came Reasonable Inquiries. I don’t remember when or how it happened, but once it did, the ideas came fast — and for the first time in a long time, I relaxed the pressure I put on myself to write and just simply enjoyed it.

What to expect:

  1. Deep Dives: Very, very serious investigations into everyday absurdities

  2. Profiles & Interviews: Character studies and conversations with the delightfully peculiar

  3. Field Notes: Short, observational dispatches from the fringes of normal life

So please: subscribe, stay a while, and enjoy. Let’s take life a little less seriously.

My first investigation: The Halal Cart Hierarchy. If you’ve ever eaten a halal cart plate and thought, “I gotta get to the bottom of this,” stick around.

Tata for now!

Visual identity by Alison Yousefi. It’s beautiful, and I’m lucky.
