It would be easy to get so fixated on the ongoing financial and economic crises (yes, plural) that the Trump Administration has created that we lose sight of what else is going on. We shouldn't.

The Trump Administration continues to defy Federal court orders in more and more brazen ways. This is literally a Constitutional Crisis. It's happening RIGHT NOW.

It has been my contention since reading Project 2025 that if Trump was elected the idea of free and fair elections in the future would be under threat. The GOP and Trump Administration are beginning to make good on that threat RIGHT NOW.

I fully recognize that what I am about to say will be seen as hyperbolic and overly dramatic by some people. They are wrong.

At some point each of us is going to have to decide whether we are going to fall into line, fight, or flee.

If you are still unclear about the truth of this statement, please read this excellent piece on the fundamental difference between mere authoritarianism and genuine Fascism.

Right now "fight" means things like speaking out, political organizing, marching peacefully in uneventful protests, and supporting the community through things like mutual aid or charity. While those things are all worthwhile and we should keep them up, at some point in the not-too-distant future those things will probably become insufficient.

One of my enduring (though perhaps not always endearing) qualities is I have never hesitated to speak up and say exactly what I believe to be true and correct. It's sometimes come at a cost, but I wouldn't want to be any other way, even if I could. So doing what I have been doing here (and elsewhere) is natural and comfortable for me.

Do I have the courage to be in the streets facing off with regime thugs using truncheons, rubber bullets, and worse? I don't know. I want to say I do, but I just don't know. I hope to never find out, but I'm deathly afraid I am going to have to make that choice soon. We all are.

One thing I do know is that I can never fall in line with Fascism. It would be a betrayal of everything I have ever believed and my own family history. My mom basically grew up without a father because my grandfather was busy fighting against that poisonous ideology from my mom's 11th birthday until he was KIA in 1945. I don't have the grit and courage he did, but the least I can do is not go along with the same kind of motherfuckers that killed him.
