Hi friend!!

Once more, I’m here apologizing for my lack of correspondence! I’ve been sitting on a lot of projects and good news, and it’s finally time to share it! Here’s what you can expect in this newsletter:

  • Holiday card list is open!!

  • Agency announcement

  • New illustration work

  • Link Roundup

If you only read one thing this newsletter, make sure it’s this!! My annual holiday card list is open, and I’d be thrilled to mail you a card.

👉 You can sign up here! 👈 The list is open until EOD December 24 (Christmas Eve!). I know it’s a bit late to notify the newsletter list, so if you read this late, please reply and let me know. I can make an exception for my newsletter friends. ❤️

This year, the entire holiday season crept up on me far too quickly (for reasons you’ll read in the next section!), but I’m glad I still able to continue the holiday card tradition.

Obviously, I’ve been really inspired by our new cat, Jasper! I’ve also wanted to challenge myself with block print by incorporating a second color. I assumed it would be easy (it’s not), so I’ve had to troubleshoot a bit.

I have a lot more to learn here, but I’m also really pleased with how these turned out! If you’re curious, you can watch some process footage on Instagram.

Carved block print next to a printed final card!
My kitchen table is a little assembly line! It’s quite calming to work on such a consistent task. Usually I have YouTube videos playing in the background.

Don’t forget to sign up!! It only takes 30 seconds, I promise! I’ll be mailing these all out before the end of December!

In case you missed it on Instagram, I’ve recently signed with Christie Megill at The CAT Agency!!

The agency announcement I illustrated!

If you’re not familiar with the publishing industry, often illustrators will partner with an agent to help them find projects, negotiate contracts, and support their careers. My big (hopeful) goal for this year was to sign with an agency, and I still have to pinch myself that we did it!

I’ve admired The CAT Agency for a very long time. Some of my favorite illustrators have signed with them. And I’m so thrilled to be working with Christie. She’s got a great eye and sense of what the industry is looking for, and I can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

The agency asks all of their artists to illustrate a spot illustration of a cat when they join. I chose to draw a little loaf. 🍞🐈

Next newsletter, I’d love to dig in some more about my journey querying and finding an agent. Do you have any questions about the process? Leave a comment so I can discuss it next newsletter!

I’ve also been adding a lot of new work to my portfolio these past few months!

All of these have been with my mentorship with Giuseppe Castellano with the Illustration Department. My mentorship is still ongoing, and I plan to share more about it once we wrap up in February. However, I’ll tell you know that it’s been SO helpful for me. I’m very motivated by a deadline. Plus, I appreciate having feedback from an art director.

For an assignment about exploring expressions that were NOT happy or joyful. Did I get the exhaustion right??
Channeling where I am mentally right now… After Christmas, I’m going to just hang out in a blanket and play games.

Illustration Department Critique Group — This is such a great free resource for illustrators! Don’t feel comfortable having anything critiqued yet? You can just listen in and get a sense for how it feels. I find the feedback to be very valuable and has always improved my work!

Drawn Onward — The minute I saw this book in my bookstore, and absolutely lost my mind. The manuscript was written as a palindrome (it is written the same backwards and forwards). Plus the illustrations are jaw-dropping. Please read it if you get the chance!!

Phew, that’s it!!! I’m off to bake some cookies and finish printing all of these cards!

Thank you for being here. I appreciate each of you.

If anything stood out to you, please leave reply or leave a comment! I always love hearing from you, and I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can!

Later friends,

Reagan
