Free High-Quality SciFi

I’m always surprised at how few people realize that Nature, the respected science journal, also publishes science fiction in its Futures section. You might not have a subscription to Nature, but your company, school, or library probably does. But even if you don’t have a subscription, you can still enjoy these high-quality stories for free.

The first step is to go to their home page. If you set up a free account (or log in with Google), you will be able to read the last few stories in their entirety. You can even download a PDF.

However, after a few weeks, you won’t be able to read those stories without a subscription. But don’t worry, you’ll have new stories to read instead.

So if you make sure to visit regularly, you’ll have a steady stream of high-quality stories.

I’m biased, of course. My stories have been in Futures twice so far. Last Men Standing was about a group of people who refused to use a teleporter. Leviathan answers the question: what would advanced aliens want from us?

So check it out. The stories are varied and interesting. Authors that have appeared there include Elizabeth Bear, Gregory Benford, Ken Liu, and Norman Spinrad. Well, and me, for whatever that’s worth.
