Lydia Renfro’s imagery is lush and precise: red dirt and riverbanks, brown sugar after Pascha, the cool stone of an hammam, the way “cicadas plagued our summer-home, singing us to sleep with dusky timbal orchestras.”
Family constellations shimmer here, as does her mixed Native heritage, appearing in glints like “I see shadows haunting this place, spirits walking west to ghost lands.” These poems transform what’s carried. Lung Deep Country marks the arrival of a striking new voice.
