In last week’s article, I recommended Will Guidara’s Unreasonable Hospitality to anyone who works with people in any way. I love the comment one reader made on that post, extending that recommendation to basically anyone who exists in the world with other people! Often books are geared toward a specific niche or audience, but this is an instance where I feel nearly anyone could enjoy the story and apply its lessons.
I’ve wanted to discuss this book with others since first reading it in 2024, so I am thrilled that we now have the opportunity! This is our August pick for the Reading And Purpose Nonfiction Book Club, and if you’re not yet a member you are welcome to join us - all paid subscribers are automatic members.
In addition, we’ll discuss this robust read in person at Your Best Self book club with Dog-Eared Books - although please note a new location for our August and September meetings as the bookstore continues its exciting expansion! Visit their website for details and updates.
Although I loved the book when reading the first time, I didn’t go much deeper into my exploration of it, so my research for this Reading + Reflection Guide has been a treat. You’ll find all kinds of additional resources, related book recommendations, interviews, podcast episodes, and more below. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!
And one final reminder that our rescheduled book club chat for The Crossroads of Should and Must by Elle Luna takes place this Friday, Aug. 7, at 12pm CDT. Haven’t read it yet? No problem - members have shared that they were able to finish it in a sitting or two. And as always, you can still join the discussion even if you haven’t read the book! You’ll find more book club details here and the Reading + Reflection Guide here.
Ready to be absolutely unreasonable with your hospitality? Let’s get to it!
