We will experience life and thrive in relationships that God will and already has ordained just as we will encounter pain and loss along the way that He can redeem and turn into beauty.

Yet in our folly, we take flights of fancy and walk in the way of ‘what if?’

We walk life in our way and step into territories we know we should not enter and live in will disobedience to His word.

What do we find? Regret. Loss. Pain. Struggle. Doubt. Emptiness.

And so we ask what if out of desperation and powerlessness.

We have seen those films, ‘Somewhere in Time,’, The ‘Time Machine,’ ‘Quantum Leap,’ ’13 going on 30,’ and songs such as ‘If I Could Turn Back Time,’ or ‘Time in A Bottle,’ capture the sentiment. Somebody is disappointed, they look for something else and find themselves in another time, another place living another life or reliving our life.

One of the ground rules is that we are not able to change anything or the future changes. We have the opportunity to play Sovereign God and by so doing, change our future. What we are shown is that the future does change and it often resembles the old life with a slight difference, but in truth, every change we make in our new life has a ripple effect.

There is no such thing as an isolated action.

We turn left instead of right and another driver driving straight has to turn or wait and that creates a minute delay in their trip. During that time, the second driver becomes impatient and they speed up and hit the back end of a vehicle in front of them. One different decision, another full chain of reactions and the lives of others you thought were unrelated, change.

The sovereign will of God is a funny thing, It covers all things, endures all things, and He rewards us with grace when we hijack His will with our folly.

All through time, God has called His people at the appointed time. Vikings, Brits, Nords, Scots, Nigerians, Kings, Queens, carpenters, writers, artists, athletes, welders, politicians and musicians have been born and have served God with their lives in accordance with His will.

The road less traveled is the one God has laid out for each and every one of us. It is amazing how the Holy Spirit gently nudges us. It is amazing how since time began, the Spirit, that hovered over the water, flows in and around and through you and I unceasingly.

Just as God’s timing is perfect, His will is perfect and the Spirit is the completion of that which causes us to utter: “‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ (Acts 17:28a)

Lost and alone? Look to the God of eternity.
