Raven Roxanne · Raven’s Substack

Wanted to begin today’s Substack by thanking you all for all the excitement surrounding last week’s release. I am so grateful for your support and the way it allows me to do what I love. The ‘Magnolia’ Series was a celebration of painting in its fullest form: letting go, celebrating summer, and honestly, just having a lot of fun.

Throughout the summer, I have been capturing little moments on film. In many ways, it feels similar to this series. There is something about film photography that requires you to slow down and notice the light and colors of a moment. Deeply nostalgic, trying to capture a moment in time, hoping that it could last forever.

Earlier this summer, I took a quick solo trip to New York to see the Helen Frankenthaler exhibition. Wandering through the city, visiting the exhibition, and trying to soak up all the color and light around me, I couldn’t help but reach for my film camera. As summer slowly slips away, looking back on these photos feels like a well-kept summer journal that I wanted to share with you.

I use the Pentax IQZoom EZY with 38mm–70mm (f/4.8–8.5) zoom lens and Kodak Professional Portra 400 Color Negative Film.
