Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed something that has been weighing on my heart. So many of my friends are living with uncertainty.

Some are waiting for test results. Others are preparing for surgery or beginning a new treatment. Some are searching for work, wondering if the right opportunity will come along. Others are facing career changes they never expected. There are families making difficult decisions, people waiting for answers, and loved ones hoping for good news.

My prayers have been with all of them.

As I thought about it, though, I realized something.

The truth is, we’re all living with uncertainty.

Some of us are simply more aware of it than others.

We make plans. We put vacations on the calendar. We make dinner reservations. We buy concert tickets months in advance. We schedule family gatherings, dream about retirement, and look forward to birthdays and holidays.

There’s nothing wrong with planning. In fact, planning is part of living wisely.

But if we’re honest, none of us knows exactly what tomorrow will bring.

Life has a way of reminding us of that.

That realization could make us anxious. Or... it could help us appreciate today a little more.

I’ve found that worrying about tomorrow rarely improves tomorrow. It usually just steals some of the joy from today.

Instead, maybe the better question isn’t, “What if everything changes tomorrow?”

Maybe the better question is, “How can I fully live today?”

Can I enjoy my morning coffee?

Can I notice the birds outside my window?

Can I tell someone I love them?

Can I offer a kind word, say a prayer, lend a helping hand, or simply be grateful for this ordinary day?

None of those things require me to know what tomorrow holds.

There’s an old saying that reminds us, “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.”

Whether or not the quote’s origins are exactly as they’re often told, the message rings true.

None of us has tomorrow’s map.

We have today’s mile.

And perhaps that’s enough.

So if you’re living with uncertainty today—and chances are you are in one way or another—I hope you’ll join me in making the most of this day. We’ll make our plans. We’ll continue to hope. We’ll pray. We’ll do what we can.

Then we’ll trust that when tomorrow becomes today, we’ll find the grace we need for that day as well.

Until then, today is enough.
