Happy August everyone! First off, I just wanted to say welcome to all the new subscribers that have joined in the last month! I’m super grateful that you are here and have joined this community.
A lot has happened since my last post. I have been making a lot of forward progress on chapter 3 of the comic. I got to a point that I realized I was putting way too much pressure on myself, and it was causing a lot of anxiety. So I decided to take a deep breath, and not worry as much about my output but instead focus on the joy of the work and it being of a quality that I am happy with. My goal now is to simply work on my comic for at least 15 minutes a day and to not miss two days in a row (unless other projects come up). Funny enough, I am actually producing more now. I penciled and inked half of chapter 3, and I am feeling more confident that I can get the entire chapter done by the end of the year.
On top of that, I got hired to do a mural this week for my hair salon. Should be a really simple floral design, I’ll share it here on my next post. We are also gearing up for the Diwali festival again this year, so I am in the thick of designing merch, social media posts, and more!
I will be sharing a lot more in my upcoming posts. But today I wanted to share the next page of Ravana’s Relics! I wanted to try something different on this page and I had a lot of fun with it. Would love to know what you think about it!
Last month there were a lot of movies to see! I wanted to share my quick reviews of everything I watched in July!
KPop Demon Hunters
Sony Animation does it again! I feel like they have figured out how to continuously innovate and it’s a treat. The music is great, the visuals are an amazing blend of anime and 3D animations. The love story was a little lacking, but l loved the characters’ unique personalities and arcs.
Jurassic World: Rebirth
I was disappointed in this one. Definitely not enough dinos. And the main cast was just fine. I was more invested in the side family than any of the others. The acting was fine, but felt the writing didn’t give us room to empathize with the backstory of Scarlett and Mahershala. Not the worst Jurassic movie, but definitely not at the top of the list.
Superman
Finally a Superman that feels hopeful! I absolutely loved this movie. From the bright colors to the entire cast, I think this movie did an amazing job, capturing the tone and heart of what Superman should be. From the get-go you understand that Clark’s goals are to care for all creatures. He hates war. He hates death. He wants to take care of everyone, and he is optimistic enough that he thinks he can take on that responsibility. David Corenswet (Clark Kent), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) were perfectly cast. And all the side characters added so much depth to the world. My only gripes are that I wish we could have seen a little bit more of Clark Kent, and that there was never really a point where I felt like Superman would lose. Something was lacking in the build up to the climax for me. Other than that, I am finally excited about the direction that DC is going.
Fantastic 4: First Steps
This one blew me away! Hands-down, my favorite movie of the year, and probably my favorite Marvel movie since Avengers: Endgame. First off, I loved the science of it all. It wasn’t a straight up action movie. We had the feeling of the space race and scientific achievement. I was blown away by the entire cast, especially Vanessa Kirby. Matt Shakman (director) does an amazing job portraying women as strong and leaders (see WandaVision). To finally get a comic accurate Galactus was a site to behold. I wish I could have seen it in IMAX. And lastly, the entire world was gorgeous. The retro futuristic vibe really did it for me. I hope we see more of this universe in the future and that it doesn’t just get destroyed in the next Avengers movie.
Thank you all for being here! My next post I plan on sharing my work the mural I have this weekend!
If you have anything you’d like me to share on here that’s art related let me know! I’m thinking about starting a community corner!
Until next time!
Raj
