More than six million tickets for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games have already been sold, putting the event on course for huge global demand ahead of its opening, with the next public ticket sale planned for 2027.

Organisers said most tickets made available during the first two sales rounds have been snapped up. The Los Angeles Games will feature a record 353 medal events, up from the 329 held at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The next batch of tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and will include more tickets across all sports, depending on availability.

There will be no further public ticket draws in 2026, while LA28 has not yet announced the exact date for the 2027 sale.

Unlike the initial sales rounds, fans will not face purchase limits, meaning those who bought tickets earlier and those who did not take part in previous sales will both be allowed to buy.

However, buyers will need an LA28 ID, although they will not be required to enter another ticket draw.

The 2028 Games will bring several changes to the Olympic programme, with flag football and squash set to make their Olympic debut.

Baseball and softball, cricket and lacrosse will also return after being absent from previous Games.

Los Angeles was awarded the Olympics in 2017, giving organisers an unusually long period to prepare for the event. LA28 has used the extended timeline to begin ticket sales and secure sponsorship deals earlier than is common for an Olympic Games.

The 2027 ticket phase will also mark the first public release of tickets for the Paralympic Games, alongside the launch of an official resale programme.

LA28 said fans will only be able to use its approved resale channels, including its own secondary marketplace, AXS, Eventim and other designated verified resale platforms.

"The demand we've seen across both drops is a powerful signal that the world is energized for LA28," LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman said in a statement.

Los Angeles will host the Olympics for the third time, following previous editions in 1932 and 1984. The city will also stage the Paralympic Games for the first time in 2028.
