Jen Bloomer · Creatively Rooted

For the past two years ago, I have been deeply consumed with the We Gather series.

While a lot of my focus has been on making and getting the art out into the world, the series has also had a powerful effect on me personally.

It’s pushed me to appreciate and reflect more deeply on the moments in my life where I am spending time with groups of others in my life- the family, the friends, the neighborhood group, the PTA equity group, the anti-racism reflection group(s), the creativity group, the women’s group, the entrepreneur group. I feel somewhat sheepish to tell you all how many monthly gatherings I am consistently a part of (11!) even before all the impromptu gatherings get added.

I really like being with people. I learn so much about myself and others and gain so many new perspectives and insights that deeply enrich my life. It’s hard for me to turn down opportunities to gather with other people, and yet, this is something I’ve been paying attention to recently.

I’ve noticed that sometimes being with people can keep me distracted from connecting to something bigger than my own little world.

This context feels important to frame why this month’s April print is such an important (and personal) part of the We Gather series.

It’s a piece about a completely different type of gathering. A gathering not about being connected to other humans, but about connecting with the rest of the living world. For me, being in nature is where I feel most connected to spirit.

April’s new piece is titled We Commune. Communing can be defined as “sharing one’s intimate thoughts or feelings with (someone), especially on a spiritual level or feeling in close spiritual contact with.”

The piece is about reverence and belonging and a remembering that we are all part of something bigger.

We Commune prints are offered as a very limited edition of just 24. They are hand screen printed on gorgeous green paper with non toxic green, and light blue ink. Each print is unique and signed and individually numbered. They are easily framed in a standard 20”x 20” frame. Pre-order soon for mid April delivery!

Here’s to lying on the earth and looking up with wonder at the trees and sky above. Here’s to connecting to something bigger than ourselves,

Jen

p.s. It feels important to shout Dra. Rosales Meza whose classes have been so insightful to me and have helped me understand how disconnection from nature has led to so many of the problems we are collectively facing today. This knowledge is helping me prioritize my time with mama earth.
