My mom comes over every week. She absolutely adores hanging with her grandson and I get to be tagged out for a while.
It’s interesting to welcome a child, you become on par with your own parents.
It’s weird though.
Somehow I don’t feel like I’m on level ground. They still loom large.
I see how much they love me. And for how long they’ve maintained that endurance since loving is a choice, after all.
I’m newly in the middle.
Looking to the younger generation with fondness and to the older one with curiosity.
I’m shielded, held on both sides. I like the middle. It’s an incredibly warm place.

Time hidden in the folds
Grains shake loose with
Every smile
Every kiss

A beach full of opportunity
Just waiting for a mold
The minute hand ticks
Its wake rippling with gold
Once plump with womb water
Like we were meant to stay
The surf churns
Coral reef curls grow
Ashen and grey
Beautiful sand castles
Now heaps the sea laps away
Eternity lives in every moment
It was all yesterday
