You’ve done 31 days of feminist writing exercises! You deserve a break, so for today’s final exercise, I encourage you to simply go for a walk.
While you’re walking, you might want to use that time spent in gentle motion as an opportunity to reflect on your writing.
I am not the only writer to find that the act of walking stimulates my creative mind. Both Dorothy and William Wordsworth composed literature whilst walking, and William paced backwards and forwards on his garden path as a deliberate stimulus to his creativity.
Personally, I find that I need to locate exactly the right pace and path. Too fast a pace, or too complicated a path, calls on too great a proportion of my mental energies to allow me enough spare in order to write. So I need a slow pace (around 2 miles per hour) and an uncomplicated path on which I don’t need to watch where I’m putting my feet, and then I’m able to zone out of my surroundings enough to think and write in my head.
