Good morning, race fans! Welcome back to the AMA Pro Motocross Championship and welcome back to Unadilla MX. We have three exciting title battles going on as we head into this final, three-race schedule here in the championship. Weather today should be sunny but cool with a high of mid-70s.
In the 250 Class, Levi Kitchen leads the championship over Cole Davies and Julien Beaumer, even though Kitchen has only one win on the season—the second round back in May. Davies was catching fire there in the middle of the season until some bad luck at the Spring Creek National cost him a big points deficit—and opened the way for Beaumer’s first win. That Spring Creek race also caused trouble for Kitchen, as he lost championship points and got banged up. Davies struck last at Washougal with a 1-1 day before the two weeks off. So, the question now that everyone had two weeks to reset mentally and physically is who finishes this championship off? Kitchen had a hot streak to finish off the 2024 season, winning three overalls of the final five races en route to third in the championship behind Haiden Deegan and Tom Vialle. Could he catch fire again here? Now that Davies is heading to tracks he actually knows and has raced, is this going to be another stretch run of wins for the #37? Could Beaumer, or even another rider, like Chance Hymas, Michael Mosiman, Ryder DiFrancesco, Drew Adams, or someone else, get into the mix and shuffle up the top three in the title fight?
In the 450 Class, this is the Lawrence show out front. Who is better at the moment? Well, it is tough to say because it looks like Hunter—who has the points lead—because he has won three out of the last four motos. But Jett had two weeks to recover and you know he will come out swinging here, where he has two overall 450 wins in two starts. Add in a much-better Eli Tomac, Jorge Prado, and Haiden Deegan, and maybe even Garrett Marchbanks and Dylan Ferrandis, or even Aaron Plessinger, Justin Cooper, and Malcolm Stewart (now that they are all back and racing after injury) and one of the Lawrence brothers could find themselves in a points hole quickly if something goes wrong. Who knows, maybe even Zach Osborne is in the mix again, too!
In the WMX Class, we saw an exciting first moto on Friday as that series resumed for the first time since the High Point National. Mayla Herrick got the holeshot but it was Lachlan Turner who made some quick passes and got into the lead halfway through the opening lap and checked out, leading the entire moto as the women behind her battled for the final podium spot. Turner took the moto win, her fifth of the season, as Charli Cannon finished second and Jordan Jarvis just barely held off Herrick at the checkered flag. Just 0.076 seconds separated Jarvis from Herrick! Will Turner make it a 1-1 weekend today or will Cannon, Herrick, Jarvis, Mikayla Nielsen, or another woman win today's second moto?
As always, riders' meeting starts at 7:15 a.m. with Pastor Jake, then bikes on are track at 8 a.m. Here we go!
It was a very foggy start to the day as riders arrived and took to the track. In the results column, it was Cole Davies third with a 2:16.442, Julien Beaumer second with a 1:216.361, then championship leader Levi Kitchen first with a 2:15.262. There is a mix of riders with and without hand guards—which we typically see more riders run here at Unadilla MX. The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki #47 did not have hand guards on today, but he was running a vest! Ryder DiFrancesco was also in the 2:16s with a 2:16.887 as Lux Turner rounded out the top five with a 2:17.379. Evan Ferry topped the 250 Class group B session, which was the very first session of the day this morning.

The fog started to ease up as the second sessions started. In the results, it was Drew Adams, Carson Mumford, and Chance Hymas as we had all new riders in the top positions! Adams, who was the fastest overall qualifier here last year, was ripping but eventually Mumford would top the session at the end! Mumford’s best time was a 2:15.995 over Adams’ 2:16.360 and Hymas’ 2:17.162.
Cole Davies had a big get off—which you can watch below. Davies wend down hard on his right shoulder/arm, and his bike ran over his legs as he went over the bars and hit hard. He got up, threw his goggles and rode off the track. Davies had the sixth fastest time that session. We will see how he does when the motos come up here in about two hours.
Deacon Denno did not get a time in that session due to a bike issue.
In terms of overall qualifying, it was Kitchen’s 2:15.262 from the first session, then Mumford’s 2:15.995 from the second session, then Adams’ 2:16.360 from the second session. Davies was fourth overall with a 2:16.442.

The 450 Class picked up right where it left off from the first session, with Jett Lawrence running a 2:12.123 again, pulling off the exact same fast lap time from the first time he was on track earlier this morning! Behind him it was Haiden Deegan’s 2:13.092 and Jorge Prado’s 2:13.825. By the end of the session, Hunter Lawrence had put down a 2:12 of his own—a 2:12.586—to move into P2 over Deegan’s 2:13. Justin Cooper rounded out the top five with a 2:14.613 as he returns to racing for the first time since the Hangtown Motocross Classic when he crashed hard and got banged up. Could Cooper be a podium thread today at his home race?
Jed Beaton was moved from the 450 Class group B session to this 450 Class group A session and he put down a 2:15.799 for seventh in the faster group.
Zach Osborne was 11th fastest this session. Eli Tomac was 24th fastest with a 2:20.468.

The first moto of the day got loaded into the gates, and it was time to go racing. It was good news to see Cole Davies on the starting line after that big crash he had in the second qualifying session when he slammed down and landed on his right shoulder.
So, the 30-second board went up and went sideways, and it was time to go racing! The gate dropped and it was Casey Cochran with the holeshot. Cochran led Chance Hymas, Cole Davies, and Levi Kitchen…until Cochran had a huge get off on the opening lap. Cochran’s rear end kicked out on him and crashed going up the hill to the top section of the track after the Sky Shot. Davies was able make a pass Hymas as the two navigated avoiding the downed Cochran, which put Davies into the race lead!
Behind those two in third was then Julien Beumer and Brodie Connolly from Quad Lock Honda. Championship leader Levi Kitchen got around Connolly to take over third, but the lead duo was already several seconds ahead. Beaumer had a crash of his own, which put him outside the top 30, so he had to get up and get to work.
So, after a few laps, the running order was Davies, Hymas, Kitchen, Connolly, Carson Mumford, Caden Dudney, Gavin Betts, Drew Adams, Ryder DiFrancesco, and Nate Thrasher.
Kitchen closed up on Hymas, and then a mistake from the #29 allowed Kitchen to take over P2. Near the halfway mark, Kitchen was about 3/4 a second behind Davies. A mistake from Davies was able to give Kitchen an opening to take over the lead!
Kitchen pulled out to over four-seconds ahead of Davies, as Davies then went under pressure from Hymas! The two went back and forth several sections in a row before Hymas was able to make a pass stick.
Then a lap later, Hymas went down! That bumped Davies back into second AND put Mumford into third!
Out front, Kitchen pulled away en route to the moto win, having a gap of over ten seconds before the checkered flag. Davies and Mumford rounded out the podium as Hymas and Ryder DiFrancesco rounded out the top five.
Connolly finished eighth and Beaumer charged back to finish ninth.

The first 450 Class moto gat dropped, and it was Hunter Lawrence going into the first turn first, but Haiden Deegan emerged with the holeshot and early race lead. A handful of turns into the race, Deegan made a mistake but stayed up and it was enough to allow Hunter Lawrence to take over the lead. Behind them it was Jett Lawrence, Eli Tomac, and RJ Hampshire.
On the opening lap, Christian Craig has a crash that ended his moto early, and Aaron Plessinger was seen pushing his KTM in the water truck lane along the side of the track. Tough start to the day for those two.
Finally, we got both Lawrences, Deegan, Eli Tomac, and Jorge Prado all out front—that is what all fans have been waiting for this all year long!
Out front, Hunter Lawrence had a slight gap as Jett Lawrence went after Deegan for second...and the #1 clipped the inside of the berm and went down! He remounted in sixth, right behind Hampshire. Jett had to get back to work, which he did.
Prado battled and bested Deegan to take over second place. Jett passed Hampshire and Tomac—Garrett Marchbanks got around Tomac as well—as the #3 dropped back to seventh place.
A few laps after his mistake going at Deegan the first time, Jett got another attempt...Deegan slowed down and squared up, almost looking to use a slower line to take advantage and repass the #1 at the bottom of the hill...except Jett Lawrence hugged the very inside line of the turn at the bottom of the steep Screw-U section! That was a textbook line from the #1 there to defend the retaliation from Deegan.
So, Hunter Lawrence continued to lead by about eight seconds as Prado ran second, Jett Lawrence third, Deegan fourth, Hampshire fifth, Marchbanks sixth, Tomac seventh, Justin Cooper eighth, Jordon Smith ninth, and Dylan Ferrandis tenth.
Around the two-minute mark, Jett Lawrence closed up on Prado as they continued to navigate lapped traffic. Jett was able to close up on the #26 and in the Screw U section, again, he made a pass! That put the #1 into second place behind his brother.

The gate dropped on the first second moto of the week, the WMX Class, and it was Mayla Herrick with a good jump, but she was shuffled back a few spots. So, it was Taylah McCutcheon who exited the first turn with the holeshot and early race lead as she led Piper Bell, Brandy Richards, Herrick, and Lachlan Turner.
Turner was able to make a few passes as she got into second and went after McCutcheon out front. Charli Cannon made her way into the top five with passes that put her into fourth place behind the front do of McCutcheon and Turner, then Bell.
On the third lap, Turner was able to scrub the Sky Shot jump and get the power to the ground, blasting past the #10 machine and into the lead! About the same time, Cannon was able to pass Bell to take over third. Cannon quickly caught and passed McCutcheon, too. That put the two leaders in the championship in the top two positions.
McCutcheon was then under pressure from Herrick, who made a pass on the #10 as well. That pass bumped Herrick up to third overall. Jordan Jarvis and Mikayla Nielsen also got around McCutcheon.
Turner took the race win over Canon and Herrick.

The second 250 Class dropped, and there was immediate chaos off the start, as he got a good jump by a rider from the inside caught up Julien Beaumer (who was to Kitchen’s right) and Kitchen and took them straight on accident! The push wide nearly took out our guy Ryder Yeckley, who was standing in the water truck lane and nearly got taken out. Nice dodging skills, Ryder! But the incident was costly for Kitchen and Beaumer, and extra so because it was Cole Davies out front!
Davies led Chance Hymas, Ryder DiFrancesco, Kayden Minear, Brodie Connolly, Pierce Brown, Nate Thrasher, Carson Mumford, Alex Larwood, and Michael Mosiman.
After one lap, Kitchen was running 23rd, so he already had over a dozen passes but his tough start to the race cost him a shot at the overall podium AND put Davies back into the championship lead.
By the end of five laps, Kitchen was running 13th as he continued to work forward.
Kitchen caught up to Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing teammates of Kayden Minear and Michael Mosiman, who were battling for tenth. Mosiman got by Minear and Kitchen was able to follow Mosiman past the #99 as well.
Out front, Davies had a four-second gap on Hymas as DiFrancesco ran third still then Mumford made a pass on Connolly to take over fourth. At the moment, that pass would put Mumford on the overall podium! there was still half a moto to go though…
Kitchen was running behind Mosiman in 11th as he had yet to crack into the top ten. And as I typed that sentence, Thrasher went down, Mosiman got bumped off the track and Kitchen was able to pass both to take over eighth place! The pass for eighth (1-8 moto scores at the moment) put the #47 on the overall podium, bumping Mumford off the podium in fourth overall.
Beaumer was 15th around the eight-minute mark on the clock.
Kitchen then got by Larwood, who was riding well himself in his USA debut, to take over seventh.
Kitchen then caught up to and passed Brown to take over sixth. That put him into second overall on the day AND kept him in the championship lead. As they took the white flag, Kitchen caught the rear wheel of Connolly, who was running fifth in an excellent ride for the #144.
Kitchen got by Connolly which gave him one point in the championship.
Davies took the race win in impressive fashion after that big slam in qualifying earlier this morning. Hymas took second in the race and second overall. DiFrancesco came through third, then Mumford, then Kitchen.
But as Kitchen rolled the final turn, Connolly came back and PASSED Kitchen to take fifth in the moto! Kitchen was caught cruising it in the final turn and Connolly snuck up the inside, put on a block pass, and blasted away down the hill to the checkered flag as Kitchen tried to react and get on the gas. Kitchen's reaction was not fast enough, and Connolly took fifth with a big fist pump afterwards.

The final moto of the day was up next, and it was Hunter Lawrence with the holeshot and early lead over Jett Lawrence, Cornelius Tøndel, Jorge Prado, Justin Cooper, Mark Fineis, Haiden Deegan, and Valentin Guillod.
Jett started to go after his brother for the race lead on the third lap. But suddenly Prado was going after Jett for second! They traded positions up and down the Screw-U section, as Jett remained in second. Prado upped the pass, which pushed Jett right up onto the rear wheel of the #96. Jett and Hunter were side-by-side going down the Screw-U section! Hunter remained in the lead for about another lap before Jett made a pass on the inside and took over the race lead! Then in a matter of two more sections, Prado made a pass on Hunter to take over second! This is the two-time MXGP 450cc Champion we have been waiting to see! Those passes shuffled the overall podium order completely. And just about three seconds behind this duo, Deegan was lurking…
Right around the halfway mark of the race, Hunter Lawrence crashed on the Screw-U section! He got up and had a hard time getting to his bike on the incredibly steep section. He got to his bike once and fell, then got to his bike and finally got up. Once he did, you could see how crooked his bars were. He was circulating the track but had dropped all the way back to 22nd and out of a points-paying position. Again, he remounted with over 12 minutes left on the clock.
Out front, Jett had about a second and half lead on Prado, as the two battled for the race win AND the overall win.
With 6:30 on the clock, Hunter Lawrence pulled into the mechanics section, ending his moto/day early.
Marchbanks was running fourth but went down and dropped back to seventh.
After some chaos, the running order late was Jett Lawrence, Prado, Deegan, Jed Beaton, Mark Fineis, Dylan Ferrandis, Marchbanks, Justin Barcia, Cooper Webb, and Justin Cooper.
Fineis got by Beaton but then Marchbanks got back by both of them to reclaim fourth place!
Jett opened up a 15-second lead by the final few laps as he continued to roll forward. The #1 took the race win as Prado and Deegan rounded out the podium, with Marchbanks, and Fineis rounding out the top five.
