Eclipse

I wasn't fussed about the eclipse this evening. I saw the one in 1999 on TV in the caravan in Scotland we used to go on holiday to every year, which is probably the safest and best way to view an eclipse. Plus I tried to make the pinhole viewer thing the last time and it was a disaster.

It's too hot to doomscroll

...but I keep doing it anyway. I have stayed indoors during a lot of the heatwave this week because of the smoke from the wildfires at Dovestone reservoir and Tintwistle. The smoke has been spreading over Greater Manchester and even going as far as the Wirral. I am about 20 miles away from where the wildfires are and the smell has been so strong sometimes it's felt like they are much closer than…

Contact me (if you like)

After much deliberation, I have made a contact form with Letter bird. If you would like to leave me a message, either to say hi, tell me how my blogging's going or how much you agree/disagree with anything expressed on here, then you can do so by clicking this very handy link Thanks for visiting.

Just because you don't believe it happened doesn't mean it's "AI slop"

A while ago I found a photo on Instagram of Joe Strummer running the London Marathon in the 1980s. Among the first comments on the post was from an individual asking if it was AI. Because a punk icon clearly wouldn’t take part in a 26 mile run for charity would they? (imagine a facepalm emoji right here) It isn’t the first time I’ve seen someone dismiss a very real photo of an event or person as…

Scorchio!

It is a bank holiday here today and it is hot. 32 degrees to be precise, a record for here at this time of year. Usually whenever a bank holiday comes around here it’s raining. To have a dry bank holiday weekend is rare, it’s even rarer for it to be a heatwave. Part of me is happy that it is a nice day. Another part of me is thinking that she’s going to have a hell of a time getting to sleep…

I have just joined Pixelfed.

I am now on Pixelfed and I have just spent about half an hour trying to work out how to share my first post on it on here. This should work, hopefully. My Pixelfed username is the same as this blog (I had toyed with the idea of calling it 'qwertyfotos', but later decided it was a bit cringe). ! My first post

This just popped into my head

In my wardrobe there is a tin in which I keep a stash of bubblegum. I have it for those times when I feel anxious or when I need to focus. It's also for those times when I just feel like putting a piece or two in my mouth and obnoxiously blow and pop bubbles (but usually when I'm alone because I don't want to annoy anyone). Yes, I am probably a bit too old to be still enjoying inflating enormous…

Voting

I sent my postal vote off today. Anyone who turns up at my door or puts leaflets through my letterbox trying to persuade me to vote for them from now until next Thursday has missed out (apart from the one I've voted for of course).

I deleted the “little notes” page

It wasn’t really working for me. Also I didn’t have many “little notes” to add to it that wouldn’t have ended up a full post, so I decided to get rid. I am interested in how other people have got their bear blogs set up. Especially those who have got a “now” page or have a digital garden. Maybe I will set up a now page the moment I have something more interesting to put about where I am at and…

An observation

I find it interesting and almost kind of appropriate that the newly elected Prime Minister of Hungary Péter Magyar’s name literally translates as “Peter Hungarian”.
