Read these words very carefully.

"They are a distinct and inferior race... incapable of self-government, and utterly unsuited for the institutions of this country. Their habits are filthy, their temperance is non-existent, and they bring with them a foreign allegiance that supersedes their loyalty to the Republic."

and this..

"They crowd into our cities, living in squalor, breeding disease and crime. They refuse to assimilate, clinging instead to the medieval superstitions of their homeland, which are fundamentally incompatible with our civilization."

and this one too…

"Their religious obligations bind them to a foreign system of Canon law, whose edicts are diametrically opposed to our own. To place them in positions of trust is to invite the fox into the henhouse; they will always prioritize the dictates of their clerical masters over the laws of this land."

and finally…

"We are witnessing an orchestrated invasion of the destitute and the dangerous. They swarm our ports like a plague, bringing with them the diseases of the Old World and the criminal instincts that have kept their own nations in perpetual poverty."

If you are a modern reader, your brain just auto-corrected. You heard cable news anchors stammering about borders. You heard politicians foaming at the mouth at campaign rallies. You thought about minarets, about veils, about "no-go zones," and about Muslims supposedly destroying Western civilization from the inside out.

You were dead wrong.

Every single syllable of that vitriol was published and preached in the United States in the 1850s. Not a single word of it is about Muslims. It is the exact, unedited hate mail that white, Protestant America hurled at Irish immigrants fleeing the British-engineered genocide in Ireland.

We like to pretend our current xenophobia is a rational response to uniquely modern threats. It is a lie we tell ourselves to feel righteous while we parrot scripts written by men in wool trousers 170 years ago.

Bigotry is lazy. It doesn’t evolve; it just hits "search and replace":

The Cause: In the 1840s, the British Empire used the potato blight as a pretext to enforce a brutal export economy, shipping grain and livestock out of Ireland under armed guard while a million people starved. Today, Western nations incinerate the Middle East and North Africa with drone strikes and regime-change wars, then act "shocked" when the survivors—whose homes we flattened—show up at our doorstep.

The "Fifth Column": In the 1850s, the Know-Nothing Party screamed that every Irishman answered to a foreign system of Canon law that made American democracy impossible. Today, the outrage machine screams that every Muslim answers to Sharia law, claiming it makes Western civilization impossible.

The Dehumanization: Nineteenth-century cartoonists drew the Irish with simian, ape-like features to prove they were "subhuman." Today, the algorithmic meme strips away individual humanity, framing every Muslim as a caricature of extremism or a cultural contagion.

The most darkly hilarious part of this historical loop is the outcome.

After generations of being beaten, burned out of their neighborhoods, and told they were subhuman filth destroying the Republic, the Irish were eventually granted "whiteness." The goalposts moved. The dominant culture needed a new out-group to punch down on, so they let the Irish into the club.

The people shouting the loudest today about "preserving Western values" from outside contamination are frequently the great-grandchildren of the exact people who were once considered the unassimilable plague threatening the nation.

You are using the same pitchforks your great-great-grandfather had thrown at his head, and you are too historically illiterate to realize you’re aiming them at a new target just to feel like part of the mob.

When you repeat this garbage today, you aren’t defending civilization. You are playing a very old, very stupid recording because you are too intellectually lazy to look at the world as it actually is. History didn't just rhyme; it punched you in the mouth, and you didn't even see the fist coming.

If we are tired of playing this stupid, bloody loop, we have to dismantle the machinery of othering at every level. History doesn't fix itself; people have to grab the steering wheel.

Stop breaking the world and whining about who shows up: You cannot fund, bomb, and destabilize entire regions for decades and then act shocked when the survivors try to cross a border for survival. Foreign policy has to stop treating the Global South like a firing range and a resource farm. You don’t solve displacement with razor wire; you stop dropping the bombs.

Call out the plagiarism in real-time: When you hear a politician or a pundit foaming at the mouth about "floods," "invasions," or secret legal codes destroying the nation, don't let them pretend they are having an original thought. Hand them a mirror. Tell them they are reading bad historical fan-fiction written by 19th-century bigots who said the exact same thing about your ancestors. Mock the laziness of their hate.

Burn the abstract and get close: Bigotry requires distance. It is infinitely easier to fear a demographic boogeyman when your only exposure to them is a glowing rectangle or a cable news chyron. The moment you share a table, swap stories, and build actual community with real human beings, the cartoon falls apart. You cannot hate someone up close the same way you hate them in a headline.

Teach the ugly truth: Stop sanitizing history. Teach our kids about the Know-Nothing mobs, the NINA signs, and the editorial cartoons that painted Irish families as subhuman animals. When people realize that the pitchforks their grandparents carried were once aimed at their heads, the cheap thrill of punching down loses its appeal.

We already know how this story ends.

Today, we love the Irish.

Every March 17th, we joyfully pretend that we are all Irish, pinning on green ribbons and celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a pint.

Perhaps, once we finally grow up and get over this pathetic, recycled cycle of bigotry, we will all be breaking fast and celebrating Ramadan together, too.

I make my living by selling books and I now have 5 for sale on my website. These books will all challenge you and inspire you and I would particularly like you to check out my latest book, Understanding Islam.

I spent my formative years in Texas, a brainwashed conservative Christian and it wasn’t until I started traveling that I realized this. I have now spent almost 3 years in Egypt working and living side by side with Muslims and studying the Quran, Islamic history and jurisprudence and having conversations with Islamic scholars and historians. This book is not intended to convert anyone or prove to anyone that Islam is the best, it is simply to educate and give the TRUE basic beliefs of Islam to break down the brainwashing and rampant Islamaphobia in the United States and Europe.

Please buy a copy and read it, give your feedback to me and share this with everyone you know! The more we share the truth with people the more we can break down hate and violence and live in harmony and respect.

Thanks family,

Quinn
