Is it just me or does trying to get a quality document signed off in July feel like screaming into a void?
Half the leadership team is on vacation, “Out of Office” replies are flooding your inbox, and open tasks are stuck in administrative purgatory.
Look, the mid-summer corporate slowdown isn’t an excuse to hide behind fake “Focus Time” blocks on your calendar.
It’s not the time to give a cosmetic facelift to a single ugly form, and it’s definitely not for wandering around the shop floor aimlessly just because nobody is answering your emails.
It’s a diagnostic window.
Go walk the production floor or hop on a casual, agenda-free call/chat with a team lead, who complains about quality the most.
Just grab a coffee and ask: “Where does quality slow you down for no good reason?”
You’ll get more honest insights in a 10-min chat right now than in any formal audit later this year.
Nobody reads a 40-page manual during a high-stress production crisis.
Take your most critical, error-prone procedure and distill it into a 1-minute visual cheat sheet or an interactive, on-screen prompt exactly where the user makes the decision.
Future of Quality isn’t about forcing people to memorize rules;
it’s about delivering the right answer at the exact second they need it.
Corporate systems love to add rules, but they rarely delete them.
Find that one bloated, bureaucratic, heavily outdated document that everyone ignores anyway - and just retire it.
Don’t rewrite. Don’t simplify.
Authorize its execution and delete it.
High quality shouldn’t be a business tax that slows everyone down;
it’s the exact reason the company should be able to safely move at market velocity when the Q4 rush hits.
If the plant/office is quiet, let it be quiet.
Go sit in the sun, spend time with your family and disconnect.
