SCHOOL CHOICE has to be closer to passing the Texas house than it’s been in a long time.  That’s the easiest way to explain the behavior of opponents.

Vouchers are racist. They offset the private education of more affluent white kids in expensive private schools they already attend… …while trapping poorer kids of color in substandard voucher schools that promise big but don’t deliver. Re-segregation. At taxpayer expense.

Texas funds students. If a student isn't present, Texas law says the state doesn't write a check for that student's education. More attendance, more money. Less attendance, less money. That's current law. On your next Austin trip, give me a shout. You'll learn things #TxLege

it's time for Texas to fund students, not systems. write that down. https://t.co/Aasy8Nynpw

Not worried at all since that isn't going to happen. And since you think the Texas school finance system is "cool," there's no reason to change it. Glad we agree #TxLege

cool then you shouldn't be worried about allowing families to take their children's education dollars to the education providers of their choosing https://t.co/5ujmvJQay5

"Smooth sailing" for school vouchers? Welcome to Texas, son. Still here to explain all this for you when you get interested in a real conversation. But if you're just a grifter, I know what to do about that as well #TxLege

It’s just… thin-skinned. People who are confident don’t get snippy in the comment section.

Scott Braddock remains personally loathsome, but it’s nevertheless the case that:

  • He’s plugged into the anti-parent/educrat crowd.

  • He can count votes.

For Braddock to resort to childish name-calling this early in the process suggests he feels threatened. It’s very Sennacherib-y.

The anti-parent/educrat crowd has, historically, been the favorite.  Superior organization, combined with (essentially) unlimited taxing authority, has begotten institutional advantages.

Those institutional advantages might yet prevail, but it will take a lot more work than it has in the past.

To understand why parents might want additional education options, see the following two items.

JAMES TALARICO, Democrat state rep from the Austin area, called sex education “the most important topic that [kids will] learn about in school.”  To be fair, Talarico prefaced that statement with the word “maybe.”

Still.

It’s an unintentionally revealing statement.  Nobody believes kids shouldn’t learn about birds and bees.  To call it “the most important topic,” however, suggests a sense of priorities that is out of the mainstream.

You have every right to think these people bear ill intent towards your children.  No matter how much they try to gaslight you otherwise.

ST. ANDREWS EPISCOPAL SCHOOL is allegedly teaching kindergarteners:

The concerned parent said they also recently discovered that the book It Feels Good to Be Yourself was read to the kindergarten class. The book is about gender identity and non-binary people. A page from the book (shown below) reads, “What a baby’s body looks like when they’re born can be a clue to what the baby’s gender will be, but not always.” It also teaches that doctors “guess” what gender babies are, and sometimes they get it wrong.

Returning to our first item, it’s a good reminder that private schools aren’t a panacea. That being said, it’s also a call to redeploy the capital currently misallocated to the government system.

GREG ABBOTT helped Joe Biden lobby congress in favor of a tax carve-out for big tech that the overwhelming majority of Republicans opposed.
