I almost published this week’s flexible opportunities list with only 33 roles instead of the 50 I usually aim for. Finding flexible opportunities this time around was hard. I was tired. I kept hitting dead ends. A few of my usual sources didn’t come through. And at some point I thought, “You know what? Thirty-three is still good. People will appreciate 33. Why keep searching?”
And then I stopped myself. Because the whole point of doing this is to give you actual options, real choices, not just whatever I could scrape together when I got tired.
So I kept searching. I dug deeper. I looked in different places. And I found the rest. It took longer. It was more frustrating. But the list is better because I didn’t settle for “good enough.”
And I think that’s a lesson that applies directly to your job search.
There’s a point in every job hunt where you get tired. Where you’ve been applying for weeks or months and the momentum fades and you start thinking “okay, maybe I should just accept one of the offers I have” or “maybe I should just apply to fewer places and call it done.” Where good enough starts looking pretty appealing because the alternative is more work.
But your career deserves more than good enough. You deserve to keep searching until you find something that actually fits, not just something that will do. You deserve to push through the frustration and the fatigue and find the real options, not just settle for the easiest ones.
So when you’re looking at this week’s list, know that every single opportunity here exists because someone (me, in this case) decided it was worth the extra effort to find it. Do the same thing with your search. Don’t stop at the first few applications. Don’t settle for the easiest options. Keep digging until you find the ones that are actually right for you.
The best things are rarely the easiest to find.
