For the Associated Press, Will Weissert and Rebecca Santana report that President Donald Trump signed two executive actions on immigration, including one that seeks to narrow eligibility for birthright citizenship and another aimed at discouraging people from coming to the U.S. to give birth. Unlike the broader executive order previously blocked by the U.S. Supreme Court, the new directive targets specific categories of people, including children born to individuals connected to foreign embassies or international organizations, as well as those designated as “alien enemies” under federal law. PRRI finds that two-thirds of Americans (67%) favor the “U.S. Constitution’s existing guarantee that all children who are born in the United States are automatically granted U.S. citizenship, regardless of their parents’ citizenship status,” while 29% oppose.
Shefali Luthra at The 19th writes that amid his confirmation hearing for Attorney General, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche suggested that under his leadership, the Department of Justice would prioritize national abortion restrictions, including on medication abortion. On a call organized by the White House Faith Office, Blanche said “If states have said we are going to protect the unborn and we’re going to protect every life from the moment of conception, we’re putting practices and policies in place so that other states and other organizations can’t attack that.” Blanche requires one more vote to secure support from a majority of the Senate, though two Senate Republicans have not yet indicated whether they would vote to confirm him. PRRI finds that six in ten Americans (61%) say abortion should be legal in most or all cases, with 86% of Democrats, 65% of independents, and 38% of Republicans agreeing.
Greg Jaffe and Dave Philipps with The New York Times cover the closed-door hearings that are taking place to remove transgender service members from the military, and the experiences Army Reserve lawyer Priya Rashid has had in those hearings. Though many of the service members chose cash payouts, those who chose to fight against the order are now coming before special separation boards. Rashid describes the secretive nature of these hearings and the treatment of many of the service members, with some of them even being kept out of their own hearings. The 2025 PRRI American Values Atlas finds that a large majority of Americans (71%) agree that “transgender people deserve the same rights and protections as other Americans,” compared with 24% of those who disagree. This is split across party lines with 88% of Democrats and 77% of independents in agreement, compared with 57% of Republicans.
At Baptist News Global, Rick Pidcock writes that white evangelical Protestants trust Fox News at nearly twice the rate of Americans overall, according to PRRI data on religion and media trust. Pidcock points to Fox host Jesse Watters, whose shows top the cable news ratings, as a case study in that loyalty: despite a long pattern of sexually charged and misogynistic on-air remarks toward colleagues, guests, and public figures — including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who has said Watters sexually harassed her on his show — his popularity with white evangelicals has endured. PRRI finds that Republicans are three times more likely than independents and nearly ten times more likely than Democrats to most trust Fox News (29% vs. 8% and 3%, respectively) or far-right TV news (9% vs. 3% and less than 1%, respectively).
