Things I Want My Children to Know Before I Leave This World

There will come a day when I will not be here to speak to you.

No more advice across the table. No more quiet glances that say more than words ever could. No more chances to correct you when you drift or steady you when you fall.

So I am writing this now.

Not because I have everything figured out. But because I have lived long enough to see what breaks men… and what builds them.

Think of these not as rules, but as tools.
Not as pressure, but as direction.

If life is a storm, these are the things that will help you hold the wheel steady.
And when the fog comes, they will help you remember where true north is.

Do not let the world convince you that you are not enough.
And do not become a cheap copy of someone else just to fit in.

But listen carefully:
staying yourself does not mean staying immature.

There is a difference between:

• a childlike soul

• and a childish man

Keep the wonder. Keep the curiosity. Keep that fire that makes you laugh and dream.

But build discipline around it.

Think of it like this:
your soul is a flame — your discipline is the lantern that protects it.

Without the lantern, the wind will kill it.
And without growth, even good potential slowly turns into wasted life.

You will see things that are ugly.
You will meet people who lie, cheat, betray, and manipulate.

If you are not careful, you will become like them.

That is the real danger.

Not that the world is dark —
but that you start to carry that darkness inside you.

Guard your soul like a man guards his home.
Not everything deserves entry.

Because what you tolerate long enough, you eventually become.

Responsibility is heavy.

Most men avoid it. That is why most men stay weak.

You do not become a man when life is easy.
You become a man when something hard lands on your shoulders… and you do not drop it.

Carry your duties:

• to your family

• to your work

• to your word

Even when you feel like running.

Especially then.
Because every time you choose duty over comfort, you build a backbone that cannot be easily broken.

Strength is not loud.

It is not arrogance.
It is not domination.

Real strength is quiet.

It is the ability to:

• stay calm when others panic

• stay kind when others turn cruel

• stay grounded when life shakes everything around you

A strong man is not the one who shouts the most.

He is the one who does not need to.
And when he finally speaks, people listen because his words carry weight.

Life will test you.

Not once. Not twice.
Constantly.

Through:

• failure

• rejection

• loss

• doubt

Do not act surprised when it happens.

Steel is not formed without fire.

And a man is not formed without resistance.
If you run from every test, you will remain unproven and fragile.

Remember: you will be tested until your last breath.

There will be moments when doing the right thing makes you look weak, naive, or even stupid.

Do it anyway.

Because here is the truth most people learn too late:

Short-term embarrassment is nothing compared to long-term regret.

Stand on what is right, even if you stand alone.
Your conscience will be a better companion than the approval of weak men.

You will see evil succeed.

You will see dishonest people get ahead.
You will see shortcuts that seem to work.

Do not be fooled.

That is temporary.

Good is slower — but it is stronger.

Even when it costs you.
Even when it feels like you are losing.

In the end, what is built on truth stands.

What is built on lies collapses.
Time has a way of exposing everything that pretends to be solid.

This world will try to turn you into a consumer:
scrolling, watching, reacting, wasting time.

Resist that.

Create instead.

Build:

• a skill

• a business

• a family

• a life

A man who builds leaves something behind.
A man who only consumes leaves nothing.

And over time, the builder gains confidence, while the consumer slowly loses himself.

Do not build your identity on things that can be taken from you.

Not money.
Not status.
Not even people.

Love deeply. Work hard. Care fully.

But understand this:

everything in this world is temporary — except God.

If you attach yourself to temporary things as if they are ultimate, you will break when they are taken.

Anchor yourself in God first.
Then you can engage the world freely, without fear of losing yourself when life shifts.

You can have money, status, success…

And still be empty.

Or you can be a man of:

• integrity

• faith

• strength

• character

And have something far more valuable.

Because at the end of your life, you will not be asked:

“What did you own?”

You will be faced with a deeper question:

“Who did you become?”

And that answer is shaped quietly, day by day, in choices no one else sees.

Remember this: one day there will come a man, or a group of people, or something else entirely, that will try to make you doubt every word I have told you.

There will come a day when men will speak with confidence and try to convince you to doubt God, His goodness, and even His existence. They will say that I was wrong. They will say that I was a liar. They will say that God is a liar.

They will tell you that none of this is true, that it is all false, that it is all an illusion, and that maybe even I never truly existed, and that God never existed at all.

When that day comes, remember that I told you it would come. Remember your father. Remember your God. Do not let those lies take root in your heart. Do not let them grow quietly inside you.

Stop, look within yourself, and be wise about what is true. You have been given that ability. Deep within you, you will always be able to recognize truth, even in a world that is full of noise, confusion, and lies.

Learn to discern what is true, and if you can do that, you will be able to face anything this world puts in front of you.

If you remember nothing else, remember this:

Life will try to shape you.
The world will try to claim you.
Weakness will try to seduce you.

Do not let it.

Stand firm.
Stay grounded.
Keep your soul clean.

And when you fail — because you will — get up again, and keep walking.

That is what men do.
Not perfect men, but men who refuse to stay on the ground.
