My mother's family, Workman, came to New Amsterdam in the 1640s. By 1710 they were in New Jersey. 1780 saw them move to Maryland. 1815, Kentucky. 1828, Tennessee. 1868, Illinois. Then Nebraska by 1875 and Oklahoma (in 1889 Land Run). 1915, Texas. 1931, Arizona. By 1946, my mother had married my father and they had relocated to Virginia, where I was born and have lived my whole life. It's a story of chasing (and usually not finding) prosperity and security.
