When a child needs medical care, families can suddenly find themselves spending days or even weeks away from home. Hospital stays can be stressful, uncertain, and exhausting, especially when a family is focused on supporting their child. During these difficult moments, small comforts can help make an unfamiliar environment feel a little more welcoming.
Our Ronald McDonald House Comfort Bag was created to support children and families experiencing a medical journey. Each one of our Kynd Kits provides thoughtful items designed to offer comfort, encouragement, and moments of distraction when families need them most.
Each Ronald McDonald House Comfort Bag may vary slightly based on inventory and need, but typically includes: a DIY cosmetics bag, travel-size body wash, travel-size toothpaste, toothbrushes, travel-size 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, shower steamers, ear plugs, a kids coloring book, crayons, a small puzzle book, a kids card game, a Pop-It fidget spinner, and colored Sharpies.
A hospital stay can mean long days filled with appointments, treatments, waiting, and uncertainty. Having something comforting or engaging to turn to can provide a welcome break from the stress of the moment.
Volunteers assemble each Kynd Kit with care, creating a tangible reminder that a family is not alone. These simple acts of kindness can bring a sense of normalcy and encouragement to children and their caregivers during an especially challenging time.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities network provides programs and services that help families stay close to their children while they receive critical medical care. By offering places to stay, meals, family-centered support, and other resources, Ronald McDonald House Charities helps ease some of the burdens families face during a child’s medical journey.
We partnered with Ronald McDonald House of Denver to create this kit, designed specifically for families staying at a House while their child is in the hospital. Our Comfort Bags complement their work by providing an additional source of care and encouragement that families can take with them during their stay. When a child is sick or receiving medical treatment, families often have little time to think about anything beyond getting through the day. A comfort bag may seem like a small gesture, but it can provide a moment of distraction, a source of encouragement, or simply a reminder that someone cares.
Every bag assembled is an opportunity to turn volunteer time into meaningful support for a family facing a difficult chapter. Together, we can help bring comfort, kindness, and connection to children and families when they need it most.
