Lockheed Martin rose 10.54% on July 23, 2026, when it reported a record $230.4 billion backlog and an earnings beat. Six days later, on July 29, the Army awarded it the largest Patriot contract in history — $58.62 billion — and the stock fell 2.08%.

A stock that falls on its own record contract has finished discounting that contract. The buying was done before the news arrived.

The Financial Times reported that Trump denied Zelenskyy’s request for interceptors, citing severe US stockpile shortages. NPR and Reuters noted that producers plan to ramp up, though not how long that takes. Neither asked the question that makes $58.62 billion irrelevant before mid-2028: what is the binding constraint, and can money compress it?

It cannot. Every PAC-3 MSE interceptor requires a Solid Rocket Motor Cure Cycle — the irreducible 30-month process of casting, baking, and X-raying propellant into motors. The contract funds the queue. The cure cycle sets the exit date.
