Harry · hades!

Hey everyone, thanks for clicking through to the blog post, and hope you’re all having a wonderful holiday season! It’s Christmas day in Australia as I write this post, and I will probably be logging off shortly after I’m done. While I’ve been busy at work throughout the last few weeks, rest assured my quick YouTube break will not be much longer, and new content is coming very soon. Ideally before the end of the year, but who knows at this point. Part-time retail is, expectedly, highly unpredictable and finding time to shoot has been difficult. With that out of the way, let’s take a bit of a rewind and look back at 2024.

First up, some quick numbers.

  • In 2024, I published 29 videos to probablyhades, with June and March tieing for my best months with both of them having 4 videos uploaded.

    • A further 10 short-form videos were uploaded to YouTube, with even more being uploaded to TikTok as well.

  • At the start of the year, I had 401 subscribers and went up by 5,275 subs throughout the year (thank you all so much!!!!).

  • Over the year, we amassed 821,882 views totalling 49,328 watch hours.

    • That’s over 5.6 years!

  • This year, over 43% of you watched from the United States.

    • This was followed by the United Kingdom (9.3%), Canada (4.5%), Germany (3.5%), and Australia (where I am, 3.3%).

  • The OS most of you were using was a Windows system, counting for almost 30% of my views this year.

    • iOS (24%), Android (18.4%), Macintosh (4.5%), and PlayStation (3.8%) were the next 4.

    • At least 9 of the 821k views I gained this year were on KaiOS (7 views) and Windows Mobile (2 views), both of which are reported as 0.0% in YouTube Studio.

    • I’d also like to shoutout the 24 people that watched via the Nintendo Wii.

Next up, the milestones of this year.

This was a massive year of growth for probablyhades, reaching over 5.6k subscribers. Before hitting that, I was hoping to hit 1,000 by now, so this is an absolutely insane number to see, and I cannot thank you all enough.

  • March: 1k and 2k

  • April: 3k

  • June: 4k

  • October: 5k

2024 was a massive year in terms of the viability of YouTube as a full time job. While I’ve still got a very long road ahead of me, this year lead to some wild firsts, like my first sponsored content, my first review sample, and even more.

  • First Sponsorship: UPDF

  • First Review Unit: Kiwi Design

And to wrap it up, I’m going to include some of my personal favourites of this year.

Longest Video: we tried to make an off-grid cell network...

This one was heaps of fun to make, using footage from 4 separate cameras, and requiring weeks of editing to get hours of footage down to just under 60 minutes. It’s a great watch that, while maybe not the best for learning how to do it yourself, is a hilarious journey on how me and honourary team member Alic managed to contact as far as a different state with self-deployed, consumer grade mesh networking equipment.

Biggest Video: i tried running VR games on the Steam Deck.

I’m going to be honest, I never intended for this one to actually blow up. In fact, it was made for an experiment which was detailed in the follow up video: i made a YouTube video entirely on iPad, which didn’t go nearly as well. This video went insanely crazy, amassing over 515,000 views on it’s own and being the catalyst for majority of the milestones I achieved this year. And yes, it was produced entirely on iPad, from the scripting in Coda, audio recording in GarageBand, video editing in DaVinci Resolve, and my entire publishing workflow. Check out both of them if you’re interested in a fun PC gaming experiment and a look behind the scenes at probablyhades.

Favourite Video: My Favourite Tech of 2024 (a holiday gift guide)

This video flopped, but damn I love it. It’s so much fun, it’s one of my best produced videos, and it really let me show some creative energy. And honestly, it was a tough choice, but I really think that this video really shows the evolution of my content over the year and culminates the skills I developed into one spot.

Best Intros: My Favourite Tech of 2024, the drone for the rest of us, & i spent 3 months with the iPhone 15 Pro

All of these videos are ones where I decided to have some extra fun in my editing process, and these are the ones where I think it truly paid off. From spending hours creating handdrawn animations in Procreate to highlight features of the iPhone 15 Pro, shooting outside of my bedroom and overcoming the anxiety of talking to a self-piloting drone in a public space, and going all out to decorate my setup for the holiday season, every minute and ounce of effort truly came together to create something great. Check those videos out, even if it’s just the first minute or so.

Outside of being a creator, I am also a person with my work cut out for me when I’m not making videos.

  • In April this year, I achieved acceptance into one of 3 film schools/universities that would end up reaching out by the end of the year. Admittedly, getting this acceptance a solid 7 months before needing to complete high school made actually trying much more difficult.

  • Around the middle of the year, I moved around in my career, jumping locations at one job and taking on even more work at another. It’s been a lot, but it’s never not been worth it to get even more funding for even better videos.

  • In September, I officially graduated from Year 12 before completing my final HSC exams in mid-October, finally freeing myself from the shackles of education.

  • It wasn’t long, however, before I put myself right back into them in November, achieving acceptance from 2 more universities and film schools shortly after finishing up my exams.

And that wraps up 2024. Let’s make 2025 even better.

If I don’t see you one more time in a video before the end of the year, I want to extend a very happy holidays and new year to you from the team at 40ºMedia and probablyhades. If I do see you again, I’ll probably say it in the video anyway.

And also, if you like my written ramblings, you may as well subscribe here as well.

See you next time! 👋
