Author’s Note // I realize that this subject matter is a dramatic departure from my usual musings on style & family & such, but if you’ve followed my Instagram for even a little while, you know I’m utterly fascinated by the British Royal Family. I grew up on the dazzle of Diana, celebrated the birth of Prince George at high tea, and woke up at the crack of dawn to watch multiple royal weddings. The Crown on Netflix? Mainlined it. The number of times I’ve listened to Elizabeth the Queen by Sally Bedell Smith on Audible? Infinite. Have I special-ordered an L.K. Bennett dress from England just because I admired it on Kate? Affirmative.

But whenever I talk about the BRF on Instagram, people completely crash out. There seem to be two camps, one devoted to Princess Catherine (they absolutely lose it if you call her Kate Middleton) and another loyally defending Meghan against perceived media abuses and double standards. My personal take, which is much more nuanced, inevitably pisses off 100% of both camps. So I suppose, read or don’t read this post depending on the likelihood of your head exploding?!
