curbs excess from within and taps the power of limits.
~Janine Benyus
Dear Friends,
Coincidentally, Janine Benyus appears three times in this newsletter. She is an extraordinary thinker, and the opening quote she wrote is nothing short of brilliant. Nature has been adapting and refining solutions for billions of years without our help. Now, we are finally beginning to look to nature’s ingenuity for inspiration as we search for better ways to solve our own challenges.
I have been fascinated by waste for decades, and I still remember the moment everything clicked. Nature doesn’t waste anything. Everything is either reused, recycled, or naturally returns to the soil, nourishing it and supporting the vast web of life beneath our feet. Every day, I try to do a little better—from composting and reducing waste to reusing shipping materials whenever I send out an order. Thank you to my customers for never complaining about my creative packaging!
While researching this issue, I discovered just how astonishing mulberries are as a nutritional powerhouse—they’ve been quietly outperforming many of the fruits that receive far more attention. You’ll also find the story behind a brand I’ve long admired and that is available in most supermarkets, an introduction to biomimicry and why it’s such a fascinating field, a roundup of what I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to over the past month, and a solutions-focused documentary that left me feeling inspired.
Onwards!
